A wild turkey was in the way of traffic in Park City on Sunday evening.
Until someone apparently exited a vehicle and attempted to chase the bird off the road.
The episode occurred at a little bit before 8 p.m. on Park Avenue in the area of Holiday Village. The turkey was in a travel lane and did not appear to be moving toward either side of the road as traffic attempted to avoid the bird. An unidentified man stepped onto the blacktop and approached the turkey. The bird moved away from the man toward the east side of the road as the person returned toward a vehicle.
The wild turkey sighting on Sunday evening was one in a series in Park City since the spring. Some of the cases have been reported to the Park City Police Department. It had been unusual for the police to receive reports of wild turkey sightings prior to the recent string of cases even as the agency receives information regularly about other wildlife like deer, elk and moose.
The police apparently did not receive a report of the turkey seen in traffic on Sunday evening on Park Avenue.
The Police Department, though, received at least two additional reports of turkey sightings recently. The agency on July 15 at 10:36 a.m. was told of a turkey “in the middle of the road” in the area of the intersection of Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard. The bird caused a traffic backup and “people were getting out of their cars,” according to public police logs.
On July 14 at 6:27 p.m., a turkey was seen “walking on the sidewalk very close to the road” along Park Avenue, also close to the Kearns Boulevard intersection. The police in the July 14 case indicated the turkey created a traffic hazard.
Some of the other cases have been in the same area. Kearns Boulevard and Park Avenue are two of the busiest roads in the community.
On July 17 at 4:06 p.m., meanwhile, geese were seen attempting to cross the road somewhere along Kearns Boulevard. The police indicated the geese created a traffic hazard.
