The Park City Police Department continues to receive reports of wild turkeys on busy roads or close to them.
The turkey sightings have continued since at least late May. Reports of wild turkeys are unusual in Park City. The cases along roads are notable since drivers generally slow down or stop when they see wildlife in a street.
At 6:12 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, a turkey was seen in the area of the intersection of Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard. The bird was “out of the way,” the police indicated.
At 11:03 a.m. on Monday, June 9, a turkey was reported to be in a travel lane on Bonanza Drive. People were “trying to catch it,” according to public police logs.
A turkey was also seen a little bit before 8 p.m. on Friday around Park Avenue in the area of Holiday Village, forcing drivers to stop and then navigate around the bird.
The Police Department also fielded a series of reports of moose sightings. The cases included:
- At 11:26 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, a cow moose and a calf were reported in the area of a trailhead close to the Park City School District campus, which is located on Kearns Boulevard. The calf was reported to be on the other side of a fence from the cow.
- At 7:28 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, a moose was seen “attempting to cross the road” in the area of Kearns Boulevard and Richardson Flat Road.
- At 12:56 p.m. on Monday, June 9, a moose was reported to be “walking down the road” on Main Street.
- At 9:10 a.m. on June 9, a cow moose and a calf were reported to be walking on Daly Avenue. The police described the animals as creating a traffic hazard.
Police officers who respond to wildlife reports typically attempt to ensure the safety of the animals and people.
