Summit County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported assault on Thursday, Jan. 23, in Silver Creek.

A man said he was driving and got into a verbal argument with a pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian then allegedly approached the driver and punched him in the face while he was sitting in his car.

Deputies searched the area but were unable to find the suspect “due to the time of night and limited suspect description,” according to a shift report from the Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls between Monday, Jan. 20, and Sunday, Jan. 26, including driving under the influence, drug possession and outstanding warrants.

Sunday, Jan. 26

Sheriff’s deputies searched a vehicle during a traffic stop after a K9 alerted them to the presence of narcotics. The search revealed distributable and user amounts of cocaine. The vehicle’s three occupants were arrested, and the vehicle was state taxed.

Saturday, Jan. 25

An off-duty member of the Summit County Search and Rescue team found an abandoned truck buried in snow at the Crystal Lake Trailhead. The Sheriff’s Office attempted to contact the truck’s owner multiple times via cell phone. Eventually, the owner reached out to the Sheriff’s Office, saying everything was OK and that the vehicle would be moved once the trailhead reopened.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on westbound Interstate 80 because of a moving violation. A K9 alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics, and deputies searched the vehicle. They found multiple controlled substances and drug paraphernalia inside. A record check on the passenger showed there were active warrants out for the individual, and both occupants were arrested.

Wednesday, Jan. 22

Deputies searched a vehicle on I-80 after a K9 alerted them to the presence of narcotics during a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for outstanding warrants and drug possession, and the vehicle was impounded.

Tuesday, Jan. 21

Deputies observed a pickup truck hit a construction barrel on S.R. 224 and conducted a traffic stop on the westbound I-80 on-ramp. The driver allegedly showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. The driver was taken into custody for suspected driving under the influence.

Monday, Jan. 20

Summit County Search and Rescue responded to a snowmobile accident near Thousand Peak Ranch. A group of snowmobilers realized one person was missing and found her — a woman in her early 30s — lying on the ground and unresponsive near her snowmobile. Members of the group performed CPR and alerted the Sheriff’s Office. She was transported by medical helicopter to a hospital in Salt Lake City, where she was pronounced dead. The cause of death is still under investigation.

A woman reported her husband was driving while intoxicated in the Kimball Junction area. A deputy located the husband’s vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The man showed “obvious signs of impairment” and was taken into custody.

A single-vehicle accident on Old Ranch Road caused significant power outages in the area over the weekend.

Summit County sheriff’s deputies responded to the car crash on Saturday. The vehicle left the roadway at a sharp left turn because of heavy fog and slick roads, according to a shift report from the Sheriff’s Office. It then struck a utility pole, which led to two downed poles and widespread power outages.

Rocky Mountain Power was notified and responded to the scene to restore power. Skyler Talbot with the Sheriff’s Office said Rocky Mountain Power employees worked overnight and into the early afternoon on Sunday to restore power.

“Several hundred homes remained without power on Sunday afternoon, but my understanding is all power was restored by Sunday evening,” Talbot added.

The vehicle was occupied by multiple teens. No one was injured, and the juveniles denied medical attention. They were released to their parents.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, Jan. 13, and Sunday, Jan. 19, including theft, driving under the influence and domestic disturbances.

Sunday, Jan. 19

Summit County Search and Rescue responded to the Smith and Moorehouse area to help multiple stuck motorists. The Search and Rescue team and Sheriff’s Office deputies were able to free the vehicles.

Saturday, Jan. 18

Patrol deputies assisted with a buy-bust after stolen ski equipment was listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. Detectives contacted the seller and set up a time to purchase the equipment. During the buy, the seller was arrested and then transported to the Summit County Jail.

Summit County Dispatch received a complaint about someone driving under the influence near Woodward. Deputies contacted the driver, but the driver refused to comply. The driver resisted arrest, but was eventually taken into custody and transported to the jail. The state impounded the vehicle, and a dog inside the vehicle was taken by animal control.

Deputies responded to a reported psychiatric incident in Summit Park. The complainant said a woman he knew had entered his home and was acting erratically. He told the Sheriff’s Office the woman refused to leave his house. Deputies arrived on scene and assisted medical responders with transporting her to a local hospital.

Thursday, Jan. 16

Search and Rescue was deployed to assist a snowmobiler having a heart attack in the Henefer area. A medical helicopter was able to land and help the victim, and Search and Rescue cleared the scene.

Deputies responded to the Summit Park area to investigate a delayed domestic disturbance report. After speaking with the people involved, deputies located a suspect, who was placed under arrest and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Monday, Jan. 13

Deputies responded to the Kimball Junction Transit Center after receiving reports of an intoxicated man drinking inside. They determined the individual was not intoxicated but had been drinking. The man was transported from the Transit Center per the request of High Valley Transit.

A resident  reported her husband was driving while intoxicated. She believed he was near Sundial Court based on location-sharing services on her phone. Deputies responded to the area and located the man. He was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and transported to the Summit County Jail.

A Snyderville Basin resident submitted a complaint to the Sheriff’s Office regarding a recent fraud on eBay. The complainant said he was scammed while trying to purchase a backhoe through the website and lost $32,000. The brand, identified as Brand Technology Equipment, allegedly had an online presence “making them look legitimate out of Wyoming,” according to a shift report from the Sheriff’s Office. Law enforcement in Wyoming confirmed to deputies the company is not legitimate, and the case has been forwarded to investigations. The victim said eBay provides insurance for buyers, and he is working with the site to recover his money.

Deputies contacted a man who was slumped over in his car, which was parked at the Basin Recreation Fieldhouse. During a probable cause search, deputies found distributable amounts of narcotics, stolen identity cards, stolen bank cards and burglary tools. The man was arrested.

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near a grocery store in Pinebrook. A K9 was deployed around the vehicle and alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics. Deputies then searched the vehicle and located controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. The driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was arrested.

Summit County sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported fraud in Pinebrook on Friday.

The complainant told the Sheriff’s Office an unknown man had called her and identified himself as a Sheriff’s Office employee. The man said the victim had an outstanding arrest warrant because she had missed jury duty and claimed she would need to send him money to resolve the warrant.

The victim transferred $1,000 to the unidentified caller, but then began to suspect the incident was fraudulent and contacted the Sheriff’s Office herself.

“The Summit County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind everyone that no law enforcement agency operates in this manner,” said Skyler Talbot with the Sheriff’s Office on Monday. “We will never call you to inform you of a warrant or demand money to resolve it. These criminals often use fear tactics to convince victims to send money. Additionally, they may use ‘spoofing’ technology to make it appear as though they are calling from the Sheriff’s Office phone number. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be law enforcement and stating that you have an arrest warrant and need to send money, hang up immediately. You can always contact the Sheriff’s Office directly to confirm whether the call was legitimate.”

The Pinebrook case is still under investigation.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to other calls between Monday, Jan. 6, and Sunday, Jan. 12, including theft and driving and under the influence.

Friday, Jan. 10

A U.S. Postal Service courier reported a theft in the Bridge Hollow area. He left a package near unsecured mailboxes while delivering mail, and an unknown suspect picked up the package. The suspect left the area in a black GMC Denali pickup truck, according to a shift report. The courier did not have any further details, and deputies closed the case “due to lack of viable leads and lack of suspect information.”

Deputies stopped to assist a vehicle that had pulled onto the right shoulder of westbound Interstate 80 near Kimball Junction. As deputies spoke to the driver, they discovered the driver was alcohol restricted. The driver agreed to a breath test, which  detected “a measurable amount of alcohol.” The driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Deputies with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 80 eastbound near Kimball Junction on Friday because the vehicle’s rear license plate was not illuminated.

Upon contacting the driver, the responding deputy observed a “burnt ‘tooter,’” which is commonly used for smoking controlled substances, according to a probable cause statement.

“[The driver] advised me that the tooter was used for ‘dabs,’ a form of THC,” the deputy wrote in his statement. “When asked if there was any marijuana products in the vehicle, [the driver] advised that there was heroin in the vehicle.”

In his subsequent search of the vehicle, the deputy discovered “individually wrapped bundles of heroin, cocaine, and over 400 blue M-30 fentanyl pills.”

The driver, who was the sole occupant, was arrested, and the vehicle was towed.

Sunday, Jan. 5

Deputies initiated a traffic stop after observing several violations. During the stop, deputies discovered open containers along with “several violations in regards to the driver.” The driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Deputies conducted a records check of a vehicle traveling on S.R. 224. The records check showed an active statewide warrant for the vehicle’s registered owner. Deputies stopped the vehicle, and the driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Friday, Jan. 3

A vehicle was driving in the Snyderville Basin without its headlights or tail lights activated. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and determined the driver was impaired. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence.

Summit County Search and Rescue responded to a snowmobile that had broken down on Mirror Lake Highway. 

Thursday, Jan. 2

Deputies conducted a traffic stop near Highland Estates after observing a vehicle with an equipment violation. During the traffic stop, deputies reportedly discovered that the driver’s license was expired and that he was required to have an ignition interlock device to prevent driving under the influence. There was no interlock device in the vehicle, and the car allegedly smelled strongly of marijuana. The driver told deputies that he had smoked marijuana three hours prior, and he performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies arrested the driver, and several passengers were also issued a citation.

Deputies responded to a disturbance at the Bell’s Sinclair in Coalville involving a man and a woman. Deputies spoke with the pair, and discovered the man had several statewide warrants for his arrest. The man was taken into custody, and the woman was trespassed from the property.

Tuesday, Dec. 31

After observing a traffic violation in Marion, deputies initiated a traffic stop and discovered that the driver had multiple active arrest warrants. The driver was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Monday, Dec. 30

Deputies conducted a record check of a vehicle in Pinebrook and found multiple active warrants associated with the vehicle. During a traffic stop, deputies confirmed the driver had active warrants. He was taken into custody.

Deputies initiated a traffic stop on westbound I-80 for a vehicle with active warrants. Deputies confirmed the driver was the wanted individual  and took the person into custody. The driver was then transported to Wasatch County, where a Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office deputy took over custody.

Summit County deputies observed a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction on S.R. 224 on Sunday and initiated a traffic stop.

The driver appeared intoxicated, and there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests, and deputies took her into custody for driving under the influence.

The driver was transported to the Summit County Jail, and Park City Towing impounded the vehicle.

Sunday, Dec. 29

Summit County dispatch received reports of a reckless driver and hit and run accident near S.R. 224 and Canyons Resort Drive. Deputies located the vehicle and arrested the driver, who was transported to the Summit County Jail.

Friday, Dec. 27

A person entered a garage on Henefer Road without permission while the home’s residents were sleeping. Deputies located the suspect walking around in the area and took the individual into custody.

Tuesday, Dec. 24

Deputies responded to a house party on Kilby Road after an uninvited man showed up and punched a resident of the home in the face. Deputies located the man in a nearby apartment and arrested him.

Monday, Dec. 23

Deputies responded to the Jeremy Store on Rasmussen Road after receiving a report regarding an employee who had allegedly taken money from the cash register. The employee was trespassed from all Bell store locations and cited for theft at the store owner’s request.

The two occupants of a vehicle involved in a property damage accident fled the scene on foot Saturday, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

A complainant called deputies to report the accident on Hoytsville Road and the two fleeing occupants. When deputies arrived, they located one of the occupants, who appeared to be intoxicated.

However, no witnesses or evidence on scene proved that the occupant was actually the driver of the vehicle, even though the vehicle was registered to him.

Deputies arrested the suspect for intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls from Monday, Dec. 2, to Sunday, Dec. 8, including traffic violations and outstanding warrants.

Sunday, Dec. 8

Deputies conducted a traffic stop near the 7-Eleven on Silver Creek Drive after observing two traffic violations. The driver had warrants in both Tooele and Summit counties, and deputies transported the driver to the Summit County Jail.

Friday, Dec. 6

Deputies on S.R. 40 initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving without plates. The driver had a warrant out for his arrest, and deputies took him into custody. They also cited the driver for not having insurance and impounded his vehicle.

Thursday, Dec. 5

Deputies stopped a vehicle for registration violations on Ute Boulevard. The driver had a criminal history and multiple warrants out for his arrest. Deputies cited the driver for the registration violations and impounded his vehicle because he did not have insurance. The driver was then booked into the Summit County Jail on the active warrants.

On U.S. 40, deputies pulled over a vehicle for following too closely. A K9 unit alerted deputies to narcotics, and deputies searched the vehicle. They allegedly found a controlled substance and arrested the suspect.

Monday, Dec. 2

Deputies responded to Best Western after receiving reports of a disorderly female. Dispatch told deputies that the suspect had multiple felony and misdemeanor warrants out for her arrest. Deputies located her at a nearby McDonald’s, where they took her into custody.

In Kamas, deputies initiated a traffic stop because of an equipment violation and discovered that the male driver had two active, statewide warrants. When deputies told the suspect that he was under arrest for the warrants, the driver allegedly became combative. However, deputies took him into custody and booked him into the Summit County Jail.

A Summit County sheriff’s deputy discovered fentanyl in the spare tire area of a vehicle after a traffic stop on eastbound I-80.

The vehicle was stopped on Monday, Nov. 18, for failing to signal prior to making a lane change and for not having valid insurance on file. Then the patrolling deputy became suspicious of possible criminal activity during the traffic stop and deployed a K9 unit, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office.

The K9 directed the deputy to one of the car doors. A subsequent search revealed eight “bundles of a black substance that tested positive for fentanyl” under the spare tire compartment, according to the probable cause affidavit.

The driver and passenger were arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Nov. 18, and Sunday, Nov. 24, including reports of active warrants and drug violations.

Friday, Nov. 22

A vehicle was stopped for an active warrant on the Kimball Junction on-ramp. Deputies searched the car and found mushrooms containing psilocybin. The suspect was arrested for outstanding warrants and possession of narcotics.

Deputies stopped a vehicle in Kamas for a traffic light violation. The driver had an active warrant, so she was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail. 

Tuesday, Nov. 19

Deputies contacted a woman over the phone regarding an outstanding warrant. The woman agreed to meet deputies outside of her apartment. They arrested her and took her to the Summit County Jail.

Monday, Nov. 18

Deputies deployed a K9 unit during a traffic stop on I-80 eastbound. The K9 indicated a possible presence of narcotics, and deputies searched the vehicle. They found approximately 60 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Deputies arrested the suspect.

A patrolling deputy arrested a driver during a traffic stop when they discovered fentanyl and multiple stolen credit cards.

The deputy observed a vehicle with expired registration on Interstate 80 near Kimball Junction and initiated the traffic stop on Saturday, according to a report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver also had multiple warrants out for his arrest because of traffic offenses in Salt Lake County. A narcotics K9 on scene alerted the deputy to drugs inside the vehicle, including fentanyl pills and paraphernalia. The officer also found multiple credit cards that belonged to other people, the report said.

The driver was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen bank card, possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, no insurance, no valid license and expired registration.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Nov. 11, and Sunday, Nov. 17, including reports of driving under the influence, forgery and intoxication.

Thursday, Nov. 14

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle because the driver had a suspended license. They discovered that the driver had several statewide warrants out for his arrest during the stop. Deputies arrested the driver and transported him to the Summit County Jail.

Wednesday, Nov. 13

A suspicious vehicle was reported at a gas station in the Silver Creek Junction area. Officers spoke to the occupants of the vehicle and did not observe any violations. However, the vehicle began driving erratically while trying to leave the area. Deputies decided to initiate a traffic stop. They then saw drug paraphernalia in plain view and searched the vehicle, finding “several other items of contraband.” Deputies arrested the driver and passenger, both of whom were under 21, for intoxication.

Tuesday, Nov. 12

Deputies stopped a vehicle near a gas station in Kimball Junction. The driver allegedly had a fake Mexican driver’s license with his uncle’s name on it. The driver consented to a vehicle search. Deputies found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The driver, who also had an active Summit County warrant, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, giving false information to an officer and forgery.

Monday, Nov. 11

Deputies in Kamas conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle with no taillights and an expired registration. Deputies reported a strong smell of alcohol and saw an open container in the vehicle’s center console. They arrested the driver for suspected drunk driving.

A 56-year-old man was arrested for assault after a road rage incident near the outlet mall.

He told deputies he “got a little frustrated” and admitted to putting his hands on someone, a report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said.

Law enforcement arrived at the outlet mall and saw a group of four as well as the 56-year-old man.

The group translated for another driver, who explained he was driving the speed limit on Kilby Road when the suspect pulled up behind him and started beeping. The driver pulled into the mall parking lot, where the 56-year-old man followed.

Both parties exited their vehicles, the report said. The 56 year old asked the other driver if he pulled out in front of him and told him to watch where he was going and to be more careful. 

The other driver said that he doesn’t speak English, to which the 56 year old replied, “You might want to learn that.” He gave a vulgar warning and returned to his vehicle.

The man reversed as if he was leaving, but then he exited the vehicle again. The other driver was videoing the encounter and the 56 year old asked why he was taking pictures. 

Then, the 56 year old knocked the phone out of the other driver’s hands, breaking it. He also punched the other driver in the ribs and pushed him to the ground, the report said. The video shows the phone being knocked away and the push, but not the punch.

The other driver picked up the phone and captured a video of the 56 year old man swearing at him and leaving the scene. He returned to the area before deputies arrived.

Deputies arrested the 56 year old. He was charged with assault and damage/interruption to a communication device. He is being held in the Summit County Jail with bail.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Nov. 4, and Sunday, Nov. 10, including reports of driving under the influence, active warrants and speeding.

Saturday, Nov. 9

Deputies conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver violated an ignition interlock restriction. The individual didn’t have valid insurance or registration and was driving on a suspended license. Deputies then learned the driver did not have permission from the registered owner to operate the vehicle. The registered owner declined to press charges and just wanted his car back. The driver was arrested on several charges and booked into the Summit County Jail.

A vehicle was observed speeding onto westbound Interstate 80 from the Kimball Junction onramp. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped the car, which was going between 84 and 86 mph. The driver reduced his speed and continued for more than a mile until it pulled over. The driver admitted to consuming two beers and performed poorly on a standardized field sobriety test. He provided a breath test that produced a blood alcohol content reading of .111, more than twice the legal limit in Utah. The man was arrested and charged with suspected drunk driving, speeding and no valid license. 

Wednesday, Nov. 6

A vehicle was observed going 5 mph over the posted speed limit on Main Street in Coalville. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped the car and observed signs of impairment when speaking to the driver. Six nearly empty beer bottles and a nearly empty 32-ounce bottle were found on the floorboard of the passenger seat. The woman was arrested and charged.

Monday, Nov. 4

Deputies stopped a vehicle on S.R. 224 near Cutter Lane and discovered the driver had active county warrants for traffic violations. The driver was taken into custody and booked into the Summit County Jail.

Deputies stopped a vehicle after discovering it had no insurance. The driver was arrested for active warrants. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia inside a bag. The woman was charged accordingly.

A 51-year-old woman was arrested and charged with two felony drug-related charges and giving Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies a fake name on Sunday.

Law enforcement spotted a car with an expired registration near mile marker 141 on westbound Interstate 80, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office. The deputy used his narcotics K9 unit to conduct an open-air sniff on the vehicle, and the dog gave a positive indication to the smell of drugs.

The deputy asked the front female passenger to exit the vehicle. When she did, a “burnt glass ‘meth’ pipe” was observed on her seat. The 51-year-old woman was then arrested. 

Deputies searched her, and the report said they found three loose pills believed to be fentanyl. Deputies also found nearly 100 fentanyl pills in an orange container with no prescription, a baggie of white crystalline powder identified as methamphetamine and “tooters,” which are used to inhale drugs.

Deputies also searched the passenger area of the car and found a black purse with a small bag. It contained another blue fentanyl pill as well as used baggies and tin foil. 

The woman is also accused of giving a false name after she was taken into custody. She was taken to the Summit County Jail.

Once there, a white, crystal substance wrapped in tin foil was found on her person. Deputies learned the woman has two warrants out of other counties for similar charges, according to arrest documents.

She was charged with several misdemeanors such as possession of drug paraphernalia and providing false information to police as well as two felony charges for possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to distribute.

The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Oct. 28, and Sunday, Nov. 3, including reports of driving under the influence, active warrants and drugs.

Sunday, Nov. 3

Deputies stopped a vehicle without insurance near the Interstate 80 interchange. The driver and passenger were both arrested for possession of a controlled substance and active warrants.

An individual was held in the Summit County Jail for a probation violation.

Friday, Nov. 1

Deputies stopped a vehicle without insurance near Bear Hollow. The smell of marijuana was detected from inside the vehicle. Deputies searched the car and found a baggie of psychedelic mushrooms. The suspect was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Thursday, Oct. 31

A vehicle was stopped on S.R. 224 for a traffic violation. A records check also showed the driver had several active warrants. Deputies arrested the individual without incident.

Deputies stopped a car on S.R. 224 for not illuminating its license plate. A records check showed there was a warrant attached to the vehicle. The driver was identified as the wanted individual and arrested.

A stolen bicycle was found near the Old Highway 40 Frontage Road. Deputies arrested a man in connection to the theft.

Tuesday, Oct. 29

Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Redstone for a registration violation. Then, they smelled marijuana coming from inside the car. Deputies searched the vehicle and found a small amount of methamphetamine and weed. The driver also smelled like alcohol. The individual performed poorly on a field sobriety test. The driver was charged with DUI, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia as well as driving without a license.

An individual was taken into custody for an active warrant.

A Utah Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle traveling 86 mph in a 65 mph zone. The female driver displayed signs of impairment and was asked to participate in a standardized field sobriety test, on which she performed poorly. A search of the car revealed several items consistent with illegal drug use. The woman was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.

Deputies received a call from a passenger who reported being involved in a drunk-driving accident. The woman said she and her friend, who had been drinking, wrecked the vehicle. The 21-year-old driver displayed obvious signs of impairment and was unable to complete a sobriety test. A breath test confirmed she was “well over” the legal limit in Utah. Open containers were also observed. She was arrested and charged with suspected DUI.
