Thank you very much for your editorial on the partnership between Recycle Utah and Park City Municipal for a more efficient citywide cleanup. The previous program did have many issues, as you pointed out. I would be remiss, however, if I did not mention that the program actually started last year. The idea began in the winter of 2012 when a concerned citizen and avid recycler, Dave Nicholas, attended a meeting with Insa Riepen and Pace Erickson. From that meeting, the program was developed and launched that summer. And it was a resounding success, with over 350 vehicle loads for appropriate disposal. Many thanks to the Dumpster wranglers (Bruce Erickson!) who make this program a success!

Whole Foods Market could use an upgrade

I am writing an account of concerns regarding the Whole Foods Market in Park City, Utah. My history with Whole Foods goes back to the original market in Austin, when there was only the one store. I’ve been a customer since in various locations around the country, including Salt Lake City, Denver, Boulder, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas Boulevard, Overland Park and, including the new Lamar Boulevard store.
Of all the locations I’ve mentioned, the Park City store has the most knowledgeable and courteous group of employees, yet the worst facility to work with, in my opinion. It is in desperate need of a remodel or a new location. The prepared food choices in this store do not approach the level of these other stores, nor does the breakfast or salad bar. The vegan/vegetarian options are limited as well. The dine-in section is not comfortable and cold in the winter. There are many other concerns.
Park City is one of the most affluent and health-minded communities in the country. We host tourists from around the world, as I’m sure you are aware. It would seem a perfect location for a flagship-type store.

Show your gratitude to Chez Betty owners

I know that times are tough all around the county. I, myself, am a small-business owner here in Park City. These last few years have been tough enough for my company that services customers all around the country. Yet right here in our own backyard is a Park City landmark establishment, a symbol to the world of our superior culinary talent, that is soon to be lost to the combined effects of a horrible U.S. economy as well as significantly lower skier visitation days over these last four years.
I know we as a community will unlikely be able to save Chez Betty, but let me propose that we can make a difference to this wonderful brother duo of Tom Bell and Jerry Garcia to help them transition from their current situation to another new endeavor. A small contribution from each of us, at least those of us who ever frequented Chez Betty, probably won’t break our banks. Yet every dollar that this duo sees come in the door over the next couple of days is bound offset some of the pain that they are expecting in the next few months. Please help a friend in need with a hand-up, and make Tom and Jerry’s experience in our home of Park City as memorable as they have made your experience at their home at Chez Betty.
