I would like to address the front-page article on the anti-Mormon DVD apparently deceitfully pressed upon people on Main Street and impolitely mailed to so many residents here in Park City.
I not only kept, but watched the DVD. As a longstanding member of the LDS church, I wanted to know what it was about firsthand. I was very surprised. Ms. Calderone, quoted in the article, stated that she threw the DVD out. Lucky for her. Had she watched it, she would have subjected herself to out-of-context quotes and many untruths. The DVD cover and the way it was distributed was deceitful. The makers of the film are nowhere on the cover. Having been produced and distributed in this manner, how can one expect truth within the film itself?
How can the makers of this film presume to compare Joseph Smith to Jesus Christ? This is offensive! Nothing in our LDS faith suggests any comparison of anyone to Jesus Christ, the greatest of all, even God.
Thank you for giving place for some defense against the film. However, I do not appreciate the way the article concluded. I have studied the life of Joseph Smith and his teachings extensively and carefully. He was a good and honest man who suffered many losses and injustices, yet was true to his faith until he died defending it. The record he translated has led many, many people to improve their lives to being better citizens and neighbors.
With a good number of your readers who also feel this way, why put such a defaming quote about Joseph Smith as the closing statement? Does this not defame your LDS readers as well? I would appreciate and expect more respect for your readers in the future.

Noise pollution

As residents of the Heber Valley, we have been following the letters concerning the proposed airport near Promontory. We would like to suggest the developer also plan a gun range along with the airport.
We live near both, and both are extremely disruptive and annoying. We have lived in the area for close to 30 years, and neither have been as disruptive as within the last six years, when the major population growth has occurred, resulting in increased use of the airport and the shooting area.
In particular, much of the increased use of both the shooting area and the airport is from our Park City and Summit County neighbors. It is rather ironic that these Summit County individuals, who would not like the noise around them, see no problem creating noise in the Heber Valley. We here in Heber also consider our solitude and peace as being very important.
We would hope those individuals, enjoying themselves shooting or flying planes in the Heber Valley, would consider the fact that the local Heber residents are not enjoying the noise and disruption either.
