The town of Hideout has contracted with the Summit County Bookmobile to provide a summer program for children. The program is in its second year and its popularity continues to grow. Last year there were 30 children enrolled now there are over 50. This past week Lee Whiting, Outreach Services Librarian, brought "Dig into Reading" Story Time to Hideout. Kirsten Nilsson, Youth Services Librarian, read, sang and danced with over 25 children at the Todd Hollow Apartment Recreation Room in Hideout.
During the visit "Mr. Lee" created dinosaur fossils with the children, who would take them home to break open the next day. This program brings the reading to children who otherwise do not have transportation to visit a library on a weekly basis.

Dear Editor,
This is a special thanks to the Kimball Arts Festival and the town of Park City. As exhibitors at the art festival for the first time this year my husband and I are very appreciative of the hard work and time that went into making the festival a huge success.
We were among the evacuees of hurricane Rita that caused havoc on southwest Louisiana just a month after hurricane Katrina. We evacuated just outside of Eureka Springs, Arkansas and started our lives over from scratch. I think throughout the years we have worked so hard to make life easier on our four children and get things back to normal for our family.
We exhibit at art shows throughout the U.S. and had always wanted to come to Park City. However, with no time to ourselves other than to work and stabilize our lives and the lives of our children … we’ve realized we have not taken time to just unwind and relax.
We came to Park City not knowing what to expect and how our art would be received .. .but we were pleasantly surprised. The show is among the top fine art shows in the nation and in our humble opinion we think it should be number one.
We come from Louisiana originally and Louisiana boost on Southern hospitality, but I have to say it gets no better than the hospitality we found here in Park City. Not only is your town beautiful and the show well organized and ran professionally, but your locals are great as well.
Now that our four children have graduated and moved on with careers and life we are for the first time going to stay over a few more days and enjoy Park City a little longer. We just wanted to say thank you to every volunteer, customer and organizer of the 44th Annual Kimball Arts Festival of Park City. We plan to make this an annual trip whether we are exhibiting at the show or not because we feel as though Park City gave us a huge well needed hug.

The Best of Park City isn’t

Park City’s People’s Choice selections for 2013 are a mystery to me. The introduction says "We asked 100 questions" to which you received "nearly 1,000 responses" which makes me question if only 10 people participated.
How else could the survey have gotten the results it got? Do you allow employees to vote for their own establishments? If so, shouldn’t the survey be renamed from the "People’s Choice" to the "Staff’s Choice" or the "Restaurants Choosing Themselves"?
The introduction talks about Park City finally becoming "world class" but how can this be true if we can’t honestly acknowledge our best restaurants? The result, sadly is that we end up losing some of our best restaurants because surveys like this send the public to all the wrong places.
If we are truly to become world class, Park City needs to have an unbiased rating system to evaluate our restaurants. With this in place, runners-up will have an incentive to improve. Right now restaurants have no incentive to serve good food because our town is driven by two-for-ones and fluffed up advertising. The result is that we are going to continue losing tourists to Aspen and Vail, towns that actually deliver food as good as their snow. It’s time we create some competition between restaurants in this town, and make them step up to the quality of dining we should have in Park City.

Please help re-elect Cindy Matsumoto
I would like to take this opportunity to offer commentary and support for Cindy Matsumoto’s re-election to the city council. I have had several opportunities to discuss community issues with her and feel that I can speak to her ability to help lead the Park City Council for another four years.
An issue that I believe is crucial to the quality of life here in Summit County is the city support and expansion of open space. Areas like Round Valley provide year round enjoyment for many of our residents. Cindy has been very supportive of these initiatives and thoroughly supports our access to world-class recreation. During her first term she and the City Council have worked together with the Summit County Council, Utah Open Lands, and Summit Land Conservancy to save an additional one thousand acres of open space in and around Park City. As a frequent user of our trail system I truly appreciate her attention to this vitally important community asset.
As a co-owner of a small business here she has many opportunities to interact with our residents to help get an understanding of what the important issues are. She is also on the front lines of understanding what affects our local economy and as a result can better represent us on the council.
Another aspect of our community that I believe is very important is the preservation of the look and feel of Old Town. I have heard Cindy speak to the importance of the preservation of the small town feel that provides an important sense of community for all of us. She is committed to balancing improvements in Old Town with efforts to preserve the historic nature of the community we value.
Lastly, I know that Cindy is committed to keeping city government open and responsive and working with all of us to find common ground to keep Park City a great place to live. This is a good time to have someone with Cindy’s experience return to the council.
Please join me in voting for Cindy Matsumoto. Don’t overlook the importance of supporting a great candidate like Cindy during the primary election.
