Most people glance at a horse, quickly take in its beauty, and move on. Andrea Bear reaches for her camera.

Based in Heber Valley, Bear is a fine art photographer who turns the wild beauty of Utah—and the places she travels—into images that stop you mid scroll. Her journey to Utah happened in 2020, when her son, Benji, a software engineer, came to Park City during COVID. Andrea followed, fell in love with the area and purchased a home in Midway. The sweeping landscapes of Park City and the surrounding valleys have inspired her photography and continue to fuel her work. Her gallery, Safn Haus, is an extension of her lens, offering a space for creativity and the magic in everyday life.

“This area just spoke to me,” Bear shares. “The majority of the work I sell here is all taken locally. It’s a love letter to this area.” 

Art That Belongs on Your Wall

Bear’s work has earned a following among private collectors, galleries, and interior designers. Her images slip effortlessly into modern homes while staying versatile enough to elevate any space. 

Each piece feels like the finishing touch a room was missing thanks to her signature service: wall design.

Think of it as art curation made personal. Bear partners with clients and/or their designers to select and integrate fine art photography that complements their interiors, their aesthetic, and their individual wall spaces. She helps narrow the choices, choose the right sizes, and pick the perfect finish.

“One of my favorite things is when I get to the client’s home, I get to see their style, their colors, their aesthetic,” she continues. “As we’re choosing the art and seeing the spaces that need art, I pull from the hundreds of images I have and guide clients through the design process, offering recommendations and presenting options. One of the things that makes my process unique is that every piece can be customized specifically for the client’s home. I can adjust the colors of an existing photograph to complement their interior palette, custom crop an image to fit the space perfectly, or even create an entirely new design from scratch. My goal is to make selecting custom wall art an enjoyable, collaborative experience—one that results in artwork that feels personal and meant to be part of their home.” 

The result? Spaces that are not only stunning but also feel intentional, personal, and alive.

“An immense amount of detail goes into this process, which makes you really feel it’s a very personal experience—like you’re bringing something truly meaningful into your home,” explains client Nicola Pugliese. “We’re hoping we have some more homes that we can fill with her art going forward.”

Always the Artist

Raised in New York City, Bear’s artistic roots were nurtured from an early age, when she sold her first photograph at just 8 years old. She later pursued her passion for the arts by studying musical theatre at the University of Michigan, where her creative spirit truly began to flourish.

Today, photography and music remain at the heart of everything she does. When Bear isn’t behind the lens, she’s coaching vocal contestants on The Voice as well as top Disney talent and Broadway productions to help them shine under the brightest lights. 

It’s a perfect second act for an artist who understands how a single moment captured in a frame or held in a note can deeply move us. A mother of three, Bear continues to bring that same curiosity and love of storytelling to her work. That creative gift runs in the family, as Bear’s youngest daughter, Emily, is a well-known composer, singer, and songwriter who co-wrote the soundtrack for Disney’s Moana 2. Lauren, her oldest daughter, is a harpist and competitive figure skater. 

Safn Haus Gallery & Event Space

Safn Haus Gallery & Event Space is Bear’s creative home in Heber Valley. Opened in January, the venue is a versatile space where artistry and community intertwine. It’s also home to the Feather Hat Bar, with custom hat and cyanotype art by Alison KZ. Guests can immerse themselves in a stylish, relaxing ambiance alongside an evolving roster of exhibitions, pop-ups, and hands-on workshops.

Every detail of Safn Haus (a Nordic word that means “creative community gathering space”) reflects its commitment to connection and creativity. From its flexible open layout to its cozy, inviting aesthetic and professional gallery-quality displays, the space caters to a wide array of events including captivating art shows, immersive installations, artist-led workshops, live music performances, meaningful community meetups, and networking events.

“One of my main goals for the gallery is using it as a place to serve the community and offer the space to nonprofits, foundations, and local organizations to use free of charge for fundraising events,” Bear explains. “It’s my way of giving back to the community that has inspired me.”

For a long time, homeowners chose white walls, white trim, and white everything to keep things looking clean and modern. But that trend is fading as people move back to warm, inviting spaces that feel lived in.

Benjamin Moore picked “Silhouette” as its 2026 Color of the Year, a soft, smoky charcoal with a hint of green. It looks gray in the morning and slate-like in the evening. This subtle change is part of its appeal.

Shifting to the Dark Side

The move toward deeper, richer colors has been increasing after years of plain minimalism. Today, people are looking for cozy spaces that stand out from the crowd and want their homes to feel a bit more interesting. 

Silhouette is part of a group of earthy colors like deep olive, warm brown, inky blue, and clay red designers love. These shades feel natural and make a home feel comfortable and personal, not just stylish.

“I’m very much about form and function,” says Meg Salem, owner/designer of Meg Salem Design Corporation. “I believe they can coexist beautifully.” 

There’s a practical side to this color shift, too. Darker walls do a better job hiding scuffs, fingerprints, and everyday messes. For families, new homeowners, or anyone tired of constant touch-ups, durability is important, and dark walls are easier to live with.

A Color that Plays Well with Others

One of the best things about Silhouette is its versatility. With warm wood and brass, it feels classic. With creamy linen and matte black, it looks modern. 

“My favorite use of Silhouette was in a home bar. We did it in a high-gloss lacquer with antiqued mirrors behind the bar with beautiful, brushed brass fittings,” Salem recalls. “It brought some unique warmth to the room.” 

Silhouette also looks great in photos, which is part of why it’s become so popular. If you look at design feeds, you’ll see similar shades behind bookshelves, around doorways, and on kitchen islands. In a home theater it creates a cozy, moody spot for movies or sports.

“In the past five years, we’ve been seeing a bridge to warmer colors in general. I’m always a fan of some color,” Salem shares. “I love earthy colors, especially up here in the mountains. We’re moving back into sages and olives. I do think people are craving comfort in color.”

For the Beige Believers

Not everyone is ready to go all-in on dark colors. Many people have spent years creating calm, neutral spaces with oatmeal sofas, sand walls, and taupe rugs. For those homeowners, Salem suggests adding a bit of depth here and there rather than changing everything.

Try starting with an accent wall that already stands out, like behind a bed or fireplace, and paint it with Silhouette. You keep the calm feeling with neutral colors but add a new focal point.

“In Park City, you see a ton of tone-on-tone,” Salem remarks. “People are craving creativity and coziness. Warm color does that for you. It doesn’t always have to be heavy, bright, or too dark, but it can bring dimension to a room.” 

Cabinets and trim are also great places to try this color without going overboard. Painting just the lower kitchen cabinets in Silhouette and leaving the upper ones light keeps things airy but adds depth. Do the same with built-ins, a kitchen island, or a bathroom vanity. It’s a small change that makes a big difference.

“I tend to like heavier color looking into the house, and more earthy colors as you look out of the house,” Salem explains. “We have such amazing views here.”

When it comes to trim, painting baseboards, window frames, and interior doors in a deep, smoky color can highlight your rooms. The walls stay light and neutral while the trim adds interest. 

“You can also blend this color with a beautiful wallpaper that has a similar background with a metallic overlay,” Salem continues. “I really like things that have movement.” 

Warm, layered neutrals usually stay in style because they come from nature, not just trends. If you choose these colors now, your home will still look fresh for years to come.

Kodiak, the Utah brand known for whole-grain pantry staples, has teamed up with U.S. Ski & Snowboard to fuel some of the most intense athletes in winter sports. The latest chapter in that story is a freshly renovated space called the Kodiak Kitchen at the team’s Center of Excellence, and the people who use it say it has changed their days.

For Boman Farrer, senior director of marketing at Kodiak, the connection felt natural from the start.

“U.S. Ski & Snowboard embodies the grit, resilience, and love of the outdoors that has always been at the heart of Kodiak,” Farrer explains. “As a brand built to fuel epic days and wilder lives, we naturally connect with those who have a deep appreciation for the outdoors and look to push themselves to the highest level.”

That local tie matters, too. Kodiak’s headquarters sits close to the team’s training facilities, which made feeding the athletes feel aligned. “It means a lot that we’re able to stand behind these world-class athletes and provide the fuel they need to power through every training, competition, and recovery,” Farrer continues.

A Space Built to Welcome

The Kodiak Kitchen was designed with one goal in mind. Farrer wanted athletes to feel supported the moment they walked through the door.

“More than anything, we wanted the space to feel welcoming, energizing, and supportive,” he says. “A place where athletes can refuel, recover, and prepare for what’s next.”

Judging by the reaction of those who train there, the design hit its mark. Zach Miller, a Paralympic snowboarder with U.S. Ski & Snowboard, remembers his first impression.

“The first word I thought when I walked into the new kitchen? Cozy!” Miller recalls. “The lighting and design make it feel like a real third place, something we’re very lucky to have as athletes built right into our training facility.”

That sense of comfort carries real weight for athletes who spend long stretches of the year away from home, balancing travel, competition, and recovery. Having a warm, reliable spot to slow down and eat well is no small thing.

Fuel That Keeps Up with the Mountain

Elite skiers and snowboarders push their bodies hard year-round. The food that lines the Kodiak Kitchen shelves is built to keep pace, with 100% whole grains and plenty of protein.

“These athletes place extraordinary demands on their bodies whether that be training in the gym during offseason or racing down a mountain,” Farrer continues. “By providing them with 100% whole grain, protein-packed foods, we’re helping to support muscle recovery and maintenance while also sustaining their energy.”

Miller explains the importance of this further. “Whole grains give us elite athletes the energy we need to get through our training, and protein gives us everything we need to come back stronger the next day,” he says. “Kodiak foods are packed with both, which makes them an easy go-to whether we’re in the offseason or the height of competition.”

That focus reflects a bigger philosophy for Miller, who sees nutrition as one piece of a larger picture. “Doing things the right way means covering all the bases,” he says. “Eating right, getting good sleep, staying active, and listening to my body can often feel like a lot to juggle, but it pays off when it’s time to drop into the course or hit a new PR in the gym.”

Farrer hopes the partnership will inspire more than medals. “This partnership is about supporting athletes behind the scenes and celebrating their achievements in ways that inspire others to get outside, stay active, and pursue their own goals,” he concludes.

Every community needs someone steady and reliable. In Park City, that person is Ginger Wicks.

Wicks came to Utah in 1985 just out of college looking for seasonal work at Jeremy Ranch Golf Course and Deer Valley Resort. Her short-term plan soon turned into a career. By 1987, she was working full-time in Deer Valley’s sales and marketing department. Over the next 20 years, she helped organize major events like Utah Symphony concerts, the Celebrity Ski Classic, and the 2002 Winter Olympics.

“I transitioned into the events role for the resort and grew with the resort as it evolved,” she recalls. “Any public event fell under my wheelhouse. I had my hands in marketing and events production for 20 years.”

In 2008, Wicks decided it was time to start her own business. With her two kids, Hunter and Chandler, she left Deer Valley and launched Altitude Events and Marketing.

Starting a business in 2008 was a challenge, but she made it work. More than 15 years later, Altitude is still thriving. The Park City Area Restaurant Association (PCARA) became one of her main clients when the board hired her to lead the organization.

“It started with me doing all their administration stuff for them, and then I absorbed the production of Savor the Summit for them as well,” Wicks explains.

She’s been the Executive Director of the Park City Area Restaurant Association for 17 years and also leads groups like the Historic Park City Alliance and the Lodging Association. Her involvement comes from a true commitment to the people and businesses in her community.

Dining is one of Park City’s biggest strengths. For visitors, a good meal can shape their entire trip. For locals, restaurants are where important moments happen, from birthdays to business deals. Keeping this scene strong takes steady work. Wicks supports, coordinates, and builds relationships. She brings people together during hard times and celebrates their successes during good times.

“The PCARA has put a lot of effort into recognizing the culinary talents in our community,” she continues. “Twice now we have hosted a group of local chefs at the James Beard Foundation in New York. Park City is evolving into a culinary destination.”

In August, the Netflix show Chef’s Table featured Park City and highlighted its culinary scene. The Park City Song Summit also hosted special dinners led by celebrity chefs.

“While the PCARA is not directly affiliated with Chef’s Table, we have been meeting with those organizers and helping them get connected with all the culinary talents in our community,” Wicks explains. “Whether they are members or not.”

A big part of Wick’s job is to highlight Park City’s top-notch dining scene, which adds to its reputation as a great ski destination. She points out that Park City has many talented chefs, restaurants, and unique dining experiences beyond the slopes.

“Park City is getting recognition. We have some amazing chefs,” she says. “We want to continue to grow that.”

Another important goal for the PCARA is to help its members understand Utah’s liquor laws. By working with the chamber’s lobbyist, PCARA speaks up for the hospitality industry and helps the government see the challenges these rules create. This teamwork is key to keeping the local dining and hospitality scene growing.

“Staying in the conversation and trying to keep our members informed is one of our important roles,” Wicks explains. “We try to help work through the issues. We help them from an operational standpoint, but we also market the restaurants as well.”

In her spare time, Wicks enjoys the beauty of the outdoors. During the summer, you can often find her boating on Jordanelle, while she spends her winter days skiing the slopes of Deer Valley. Hiking throughout the year with her two Bernese Mountain Dogs, Wrangler and Oakley, is another activity that keeps her active and connected to nature. Wicks says people often ask her where she will retire, and she can’t imagine going anywhere else. She lives in Heber and thinks it’s amazing. 

Wicks is also looking forward to a new chapter: She will become a grandmother in September, and she couldn’t be more excited.

“I am really close to my kids, so anytime I can get them to hang out with me, it’s amazing,” she says. “Both my kids live in the Wasatch Back, and I am so blessed to have them close to me.”

Danelle Umstead is a world-class athlete who relies on the unshakable bond of trust she shares with her husband Rob instead of her own sight. On downhill runs, Rob skis just ahead of Danelle, calling out every turn and change in terrain. As she became a professional skier despite her limitations, it’s safe to say her story is one of extraordinary determination. As impressive as her achievements are, her story has come to transcend the race course and reach deeply into the community.

A Park City resident since 2006, Umstead is a four-time Paralympian and three-time Paralympic bronze medalist in alpine skiing. Together, Danelle and Rob became the first visually impaired husband-and-wife ski racing team to compete and medal for Team USA at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Paralympic Games. They brought home bronze medals in both the downhill and super-combined events, eventually securing over 50 medals in the alpine skiing World Cup competition. She also has the honor of being the first ever blind contestant on “Dancing with the Stars”.

Umstead was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa at age 13, a genetic eye disease that leads to blindness. But she has never let her vision define her limits. After losing her central vision and eventually most of her sight, she discovered adaptive skiing at age 29 through her father. The sport transformed her life, giving her a renewed sense of freedom. Umstead also battles multiple sclerosis, affecting her cognition at times. 

“Sports change your life, no matter what age you are when you get involved. Being active and in a community within sports is just life-changing,” Umstead says. “I also felt like I had no one to look up to, I definitely found it within Olympians.”

This feeling of empowerment inspired her to create the Sisters in Sports Foundation (SIS) in 2020. It recognizes that women and girls with disabilities face significant barriers to entering the world of sports and helps provide them with resources to overcome these barriers. In 2023, she co-founded the next iteration of the foundation alongside Paralympic powerhouses Oksana Masters and Kendall Gretsch. 

“We had eight women show up and compete in the Paralympic Games in 2026,” Umstead shares. “It was incredible. We’re actually seeing our work come to fruition. We make sure that they stay active throughout the year.” 

The organization’s mission is to ensure every woman and girl with a disability belongs, thrives, and rises through sport and community. The foundation has already supported more than 50 athletes through direct grants and specialized programs. Beyond financial support, Sisters in Sports prioritizes mental health and wellness by offering monthly roundtables and licensed, one-on-one support from sports psychologists.

The foundation also connects aspiring athletes with established female mentors who have navigated the unique challenges of being a disabled athlete. 

“We just had our first gold medalists in our foundation,” Umstead says. “Kate Delson, a Park City local, medaled in snowboarding at the 2026 Winter Paralympics. She’s incredible. She’s been with us for four years and has used all of our resources.” 

Summer Adventures

The foundation is always expanding its reach and creating new avenues for outdoor recreation and community engagement during the warmer months. From gathering to make arts and crafts to more intentional discussions about navigating life, the importance of showing up for each other is paramount. 

“All of the resources that we give to our athletes are year-round,” Umstead explains. “We continue to support them holistically.” 

In May 2026, SIS launched a new series of virtual programs. A mental performance roundtable, focused on learning new skills to improve mental health; SIS Connect, an informal roundtable held at least once a month to hold discussions and support one another; and Speaker Gym, a Toastmasters-style roundtable to help athletes develop their public-speaking abilities, share their stories, and advocate for themselves. In June, SIS also launched a virtual workout to keep girls competitive and part of the community. 

This September, SIS will host its first internal camp, bringing together all athletes from across the country before the annual fundraising gala on September 26. SIS is also part of Live PC, Give PC. 

“We’ve seen that we’re keeping these athletes in sports by providing access to these things that help them have a community,” Umstead continues. “We’re providing something that women don’t get.” 

At Sisters in Sports, support never stops with a single grant or workshop. The foundation champions a pay-it-forward effort. As athletes grow, they step into mentorship roles themselves, becoming community leaders. Umstead explains that keeping athletes on the trails, whether by funding prosthetics or bikes, is a necessary part of the mission as well. Often, prosthetics start at $20,000. 

“Reach out, support, and learn,” Umstead states. “There are so many beautiful things that come from community support. Together we rise.”

Every summer, Park City’s historic Main Street transforms into a celebration of local arts and culture. The Park Silly Sunday Market is a street festival that brings together residents and visitors for an unforgettable weekend experience on select Sundays.

If you’re a newcomer expecting a traditional farmers market, adjust your expectations and get ready for a refreshing gathering. Rather than bins of fresh produce and farm vegetables, this event captures a unique artisan experience. Attendees spend their Sundays browsing beautifully handcrafted goods, sampling gourmet street food, and soaking up the lively atmosphere created by local musicians and performers, with partners like Mountain Town Music, Top Shelf, and Nuzzles and Co.

Running a massive summer-long event requires serious dedication and a love for the community. Executive Director Kate McChesney and Director of Operations and Logistics Michelle McDonald have skillfully guided the market for more than a decade. Their commitment ensures the festival remains welcoming, inclusive, and local.

Under their leadership, the street festival has experienced incredible growth. What began in 2007 as a modest neighborhood setup with just 35 booths has grown into an impressive roster of 200 vendors each market day, drawing hundreds of enthusiastic attendees to Park City.

Beyond the entertainment and shopping, the market serves as an incubator for small businesses. Entrepreneurs have an opportunity to present their products to a large audience in a low-risk environment. This allows them to gather immediate feedback from real customers and refine their business models. Many popular brick-and-mortar restaurants and shops throughout Park City can trace their humble beginnings right back to a Park Silly booth. 

The entrepreneurial adventure extends to the community’s youth, too. The innovative “KID-trepreneur” initiative provides highly discounted booth spaces for young residents. This special program allows kids to showcase their creativity, practice customer service, and learn the basics of running a business in a supportive environment. 

“We want to continue to be the place where our community, neighbors, and visitors gather on a Silly Sunday, hang out, and enjoy the community and the beautiful place we live in,” McDonald says. “We also want to be a place that artists and entrepreneurs can turn to as an opportunity to foster and test out their ideas.” 

Leading the Way in Sustainability

The Park Silly Sunday Market operates with rigorous zero-waste sustainability practices, setting a remarkable standard for large-scale outdoor events that ultimately protects the natural beauty of the surrounding mountains.

Almost nothing from the festival ends up in a landfill. All food vendors are required to use biodegradable products, and single-use plastic is strictly prohibited. Some vendors even hand out pasta straws instead of plastic ones. Bottled water is not sold on-site, so attendees are encouraged to bring their own reusable containers and take advantage of the free water refill stations scattered throughout the event.

“Everything within our ‘walls’ as far as trash, we haul it out,” McChesney explains. “We have recycling and compost, zero bottled water, a bike valet, and even our food vendors have to be biodegradable.”

Plan Your Visit to Main Street

Getting to the festivities is easy, provided you know the local tips. To avoid traffic and limited paid spaces near Old Town, the most convenient option is to utilize the free parking at Park City High School. From the school parking lot, you can hop on a complimentary city bus that drops you right at the center of the action.

If you want to enjoy the fresh mountain air even longer, consider leaving the car behind entirely. The market offers a free bike valet service, making it easy to cycle straight to Main Street without worrying about securing your bicycle.

For those who prefer to park closer, there is limited paid parking available in the China Bridge parking structure and throughout the Old Town area. Be sure to carefully read all posted signs, as parking fees, time limits, and residential permit requirements are strictly enforced by the city. Planning ahead and following these guidelines will help ensure a smooth and stress-free visit to the area.

Whether you want to host lively gatherings or just carve out a quiet spot to decompress after a long week, the secret is breaking it all down into manageable steps. Spread the work across a Friday-through-Sunday schedule and a high-end outdoor oasis feels not just doable but fun.

Friday

Planning and Vision

Every great design starts with a plan. Use Friday to dream up your ideal outdoor retreat and map out what you’ll need to make it happen. Before you buy a single plant or piece of furniture, spend some time just observing the space and sketching out a strategy.

Measure and Map the Space

Grab a tape measure and sketch a rough outline of your yard or patio. Pay attention to how the home’s architecture connects with the outdoor space, and track where the sun falls throughout the day and into the evening. “First thing to consider is what the finishes are on your outside area,” recommends Jo Ann Howa, owner of Natural Instincts. “Whether you have an outdoor kitchen or barbecue island, most of the time these areas are covered. You’ll also need to consider the elements. Most homes will have the same type of brick or flooring in those areas.”

Once the main features are mapped out on paper, decide on a cohesive color palette and design style. Whether aiming for a sleek, modern look with neutral tones or a vibrant, bohemian retreat, maintaining a consistent aesthetic is the hallmark of professional design.

Saturday

Planting for Privacy and Beauty

Saturday is for getting your hands dirty and bringing Friday’s plan off the page. Head to the local nursery, load up on fresh greenery, and start planting. The right plants can completely transform a space by softening hard edges, adding color, and making everything feel alive. 

Establishing Natural Boundaries

Privacy is a common concern for outdoor living, especially in close-knit neighborhoods with shared sightlines. Instead of relying solely on fencing, use plants to create a lush, natural barrier. Strategic planting of hearty evergreens for example, not only blocks out unwanted views but also dampens neighborhood street noise and creates an intimate, enclosed feeling.

Select fast-growing trees, tall ornamental grasses, and dense shrubs that grow into living screens. This approach provides a beautiful backdrop for weekend gatherings while maintaining a sense of secluded tranquility. Sophy Kohler, owner of Park City Gardens, recommends paying attention to the calendar and planning blooms accordingly.

“When you’re planning an outdoor space, you want to think about blooms in every part of the season and capturing some fall color as well,” Kohler explains. “When planting trees, choose a variety like a non-fruiting crabapple that will deliver a gorgeous flower early in the spring. Also, a maple tree is considered an ornamental tree; you will get beautiful fall colors from it.”

Perfecting Patio Pots

Not every outdoor space features sprawling lawns or expansive garden beds. For patios, decks, and smaller courtyards, container gardening is a brilliant and stylish solution. Potted plants add varying heights, textures, and rich colors, creating visual interest exactly where it is needed most.

Group pots in odd numbers—threes or fives—for a naturally pleasing arrangement. Mix container sizes and styles while keeping the plant colors complementary to the overall design scheme. Place trailing vines in tall planters and mix them with broad-leafed hostas or colorful annuals for a dynamic, eye-catching focal point.

“Pots are so great, especially here in Park City, where digging a hole in the ground can be challenging,” Kohler adds. “I love to do a mix of annuals, perennials, and herbs in my pots to make them look more garden-like and wild.”

Sunday

Saturday’s planting has set the scene, so Sunday is when everything clicks into place: the furniture, the lighting, the finishing touches that turn a nice yard into a place people actually want to hang out in.

An outdoor kitchen typically becomes the center of everything. Whether you’re going all-in with a full grilling station or keeping it simple with a sleek portable setup, carve out a dedicated spot for food prep and serving based on your Friday floor plan.

Incorporate weather-resistant counters for chopping vegetables, a mini fridge for chilled local beverages, and stylish storage cabinets for grilling tools. This purposeful culinary addition keeps the party outside, allowing the host to mingle while guests gather around to chat and sample the day’s delicious creations.

Seating with Fire Tables and Options for All

Now it is time to build the heart of the open-air living room: the seating arrangements. Place cozy groupings of comfortable seating around a stunning fire table. Fire tables set a welcoming, warm tone and immediately become a favorite gathering spot—perfect for roasting s’mores, sharing stories, or sipping wine as the sun sets.

Provide a mix of seating options to accommodate everyone. Incorporate relaxing rocking chairs for those who love a gentle sway alongside supportive, regular chairs for dining and conversing.

“Depending on where your seating is situated and whether or not it’s covered, you could add an outdoor rug that defines the space and makes it look more like a living room,” Howa suggests. “Often, people have an actual fireplace outside, allowing for a typical seating arrangement in front of it.”

Create a Welcoming Glow with Lighting

Don’t let all that hard work vanish the moment the sun goes down. Good lighting keeps the space alive after dark. Skip the single harsh floodlight and go for layered lighting instead.

Howa recommends bordering the pathways with low-voltage lighting to guide guests safely through the yard while adding a whimsical glow. On the exterior walls, mount stylish light sconces near the outdoor kitchen and lounge areas. These sconces provide an elegant architectural accent and keep the space bright and functional well after sunset.

Styling with Stone Accent Tables and Textiles

Finish the Sunday styling with beautiful textures and functional pieces. Place sturdy stone accent tables near the seating arrangements. These solid stone pieces add a natural texture while keeping drinks, snacks, or a decorative potted plant within easy reach.

Toss plush, weather-resistant throw pillows and cozy blankets over the rockers and regular chairs to introduce pops of the chosen color palette.

Enjoy the New Retreat

By Sunday evening, the transformation is complete. What started as a blank slate on Friday night is now a functional, beautifully designed outdoor living space that’s ready for everything from quiet mornings with coffee to full-blown weekend gatherings.
