Park City police officers in late August pulled over drivers for a variety of suspected traffic offenses, including cases the agency says involved speeds well above posted limits.
The Police Department regularly conducts traffic patrols on entryways and in neighborhoods. The recent cases appeared to be regular patrols rather than an operation targeting speeding.
In many cases, public police logs didn’t detail whether a driver received a ticket or a warning, but officers are believed to issue warnings unless the suspected violation is deemed to be egregious or the person is a repeat offender.
Speeding and other moving violations have long been some of the chief law enforcement-related complaints of Parkites.
Some of the recent cases included:
- On Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2:57 p.m., a driver was stopped on an unspecified street in Deer Valley traveling at 35 mph. The posted limit is 25 mph.
- On Saturday, Aug. 29, at 6:10 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver near the intersection of S.R. 224 and Meadows Drive because the vehicle was traveling at 62 mph in a 45 mph zone.
- On Aug. 29 at 5:41 p.m., an officer stopped a driver in the area of Park Avenue and Homestake Road, describing the vehicle as traveling at 59 mph in a 40 mph zone.
- On Friday, Aug. 28, at 5:25 p.m., an officer stopped a driver in the area of S.R. 224 and Payday Drive after observing a car traveling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone.
- On Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 6:35 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver in the area of Kearns Boulevard and Comstock Drive. The vehicle was traveling at 73 mph in a 50 mph zone.
There were numerous other traffic stops involving a variety of suspected offenses. They included changing lanes without using a turn signal, window tinting and driving in a bus lane.
