The Park City Fire District on Thursday morning fought a high-elevation fire close to Park City Mountain that was apparently ignited by a lightning strike. No ski infrastructure was lost.
Early reports indicated the fire was contained to one tree and there was no danger to structures. Trails at Park City Mountain closed Thursday morning and reopened Friday morning.
Utah Fire Info said the fire was discovered at 6:32 a.m. on Thursday and covered half of an acre.
The Park City municipal government said air support was summoned to assist with the firefighting effort.
The Park City Fire District at 10:45 a.m. said a firefighting helicopter had been operating for about an hour and had dropped approximately 15 buckets of water.
Park City Fire District also said no structures, including ski infrastructure, were destroyed or threatened. The fire remained active on Thursday, but crews had stopped the fire’s forward progress. No evacuations were ordered.
A spokesperson for Park City Mountain said that the Town Lift, Crescent lift, Payday lift and the Red Pine Gondola were closed on Thursday. Activities on the Mountain Village side of the resort that don’t require riding a lift, including the Mountain Coaster, were open.
