I’ve had the opportunity to work with Malena Stevens over the years, both through her work at the county level and on local campaigns. What has consistently impressed me is her judgment. She understands the role she is in, the responsibility that comes with it, and when to lead, listen and support.
That matters enormously in our next Summit County clerk.
Elections are partisan. Election administration shouldn’t be.
The race for county clerk may be partisan, but the responsibility of the person elected extends to every eligible voter, regardless of party. The clerk’s responsibility is to administer the law fairly and effectively, ensuring that every eligible voter has the opportunity to cast a ballot.
I believe Malena understands that distinction.
I’ve seen it in campaign work. Malena brings strategic insight and experience to the table, but she understands that her role is to support the candidate, not become the candidate. She knows when to push, when to listen and when to step back.
I’ve seen those same qualities in her work at the county level. She understands how government works, how policies are implemented and that public service requires consistency and care.
Those qualities are particularly important now. Election laws and procedures will continue to change, and the county clerk must implement the laws Utah adopts, whether or not they reflect her personal preferences, while making those processes work effectively for Summit County voters.
Malena understands state and local government, pays attention to legislative issues affecting our elections, and understands that administering elections is public service — with a responsibility to every voter.
We need a county clerk who will follow the law, protect the integrity of our elections and make sure every eligible Summit County voter has the opportunity to participate.
I trust Malena Stevens to do exactly that, and I’m proud to support her for Summit County clerk.
