The Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation, an organization founded by Alterra Mountain Company, which owns Deer Valley Resort and Solitude Mountain Resort, announced Monday the appointment of Robert Foley as its new executive director.
Foley will oversee the foundation’s core programs supporting mental health initiatives in our mountain communities. He joins the foundation with multiple decades of experience in nonprofit leadership and community-centered philanthropy, as well as extensive work with behavioral health systems within rural and urban communities, according to the foundation.
In addition to his recent work at The Colorado Trust addressing housing, food and mental/behavioral health in a range of under-resourced communities, he previously served as senior project director at the CDC Foundation.
Foley previously also worked as Chief Program Officer for the National Indian Health Board supporting organizational strategy, program growth and national partnerships to advance tribal health, public health and behavioral health policies and systems. Prior to that, he served as president and CEO of the National Native American AIDS Prevention Center, and he dedicated his early career to effective health prevention at the Denver STD/HIV Prevention Training Center and the Tri-Ethnic Center for Prevention Research at Colorado State University.

A public charity originally founded and inspired by Alterra Mountain Company, the Alterra Mountain Company Community Foundation focuses on supporting mental health initiatives in its mountain communities. It seeks to provide resources, tools and solutions to address and mitigate challenges and reduce stigma around mental health, and it seeks to provide an avenue to alleviate hardships, with the intention to create an environment for all to survive and thrive.
Originally established to provide financial support to mountain communities in times of need, the foundation now also provides assistance through a variety of grantmaking offerings and direct programming — including Mountain Community Screenings, specialized psychotherapies, behavioral health access, a mental health toolkit and emergency relief and hardship assistance — and will soon debut a new behavioral health system improvement toolkit for mountain communities.
