The Summit County Council unanimously voted to change the name of Tech Center Drive as the county and Six Ridge Partners brace for construction on the Altus Park City project, previously known as Dakota Pacific.
Brandon Brady, a county engineer, presented a list of potential names for the roadway last year, saying it made sense for the county to change its designation because there will be no tech center once Altus Park City is built. He told councilors on Wednesday that the timing is also ideal because there are currently no addresses associated with Tech Center Drive.
The four finalists were Big Moose Road, Nordic Drive, Gold Medal Way and Murdock Peak Road. Residents had a chance to vote on their favorite, and 41% of participants selected Nordic Drive.
However, the ordinance never reached the County Council because Six Ridge Partners, the development firm previously called Dakota Pacific Real Estate, asked the county to hold off on choosing a new name until the company had finished its rebranding process.
Six Ridge Partners then requested the County Council consider renaming the road to Altus Way, likely to build consistent branding throughout the development, Brady said in a June presentation.
The County Council was not open to Six Ridge’s suggestion, though, and told Brady to draft an ordinance changing the name to Nordic Drive, with County Council Chair Canice Harte saying he wanted to respect the wishes of residents who had participated in the county’s survey.
