A Park City Planning Commission vote on a controversial Bonanza Park development concept that involves the municipal government is not scheduled this month.
The agenda for the panel’s meeting on Wednesday indicates a hearing is planned. Municipal staffers, though, have put the possibility of a continuation to an unspecified date on the agenda.
Staffers had previously crafted a timeline that forecast a vote, potentially, at the Wednesday meeting. That tentative timeline indicated a continuation until Sept. 9 was possible as well. It also noted the possibility of additional meetings if the Planning Commission wanted to hold them. It is common for the Planning Commission to spend more time on significant proposals than initially anticipated in timelines.
The timeline, starting with a Planning Commission meeting on June 24, was aggressive for the ambitiousness of the development concept. The municipal government and Chicago-area firm Brinshore Development, are partnering on a project on 5 acres of municipal land stretching inward from the southwest corner of the intersection of Bonanza Drive and Kearns Boulevard. The proposal involves:
- 88 units of income-restricted rentals.
- 18 rentals without income restrictions.
- More than 30,000 square feet for a variety of tenants, such as retailers, restaurants, cafes and art spaces for not-for-profit organizations.
- A childcare location.
- 2 acres of open space.
There is organized opposition and calls for the land to instead be turned into park space.
