Minerstown Park City, a community gym focused on strength and mobility training, announced that it will host a grand opening from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 28, for its new location at 2780 W. Rasmussen Road.
The event will feature food from Vessel Kitchen, beverages and an opportunity drawing with proceeds going to Peace House. Items include a three-month membership to Minerstown and supplements from Momentous.
Founded in 2013, Minerstown started out as a CrossFit and functional fitness “box.” Under the leadership of owner Ben Van Treese, the gym gained a reputation for training mountain athletes determined to overcome chronic back, hip and knee pain. Minerstown also became a gym for local Olympians, including freeskier Zoe Atkin and Nordic combined skier Stephen Schumann, along with middle and high school athletes.
Minerstown recently moved to the Summit Center off Rasmussen Road, partly to improve access for year-round locals. Three partners — Trailhead Chiropractic, Happy Brain PT and System 81 — operate from the new gym.
Minerstown said it is also known for its private coaching and 100 Year Athlete classes, designed for locals “who want to train for a lifetime of adventure in the mountains,” the gym said. The facility recently revamped its functional fitness classes to be more welcoming, regardless of prior weightlifting experience.
“Minerstown was always about creating a community gym that combines life-changing results with good vibes,” said Van Treese. “We’re the gym where people overcome five years of back pain. We’re also the gym where people care about the snow report and trail conditions as much as you do and want to get out there together. This event is our way of thanking longtime members and welcoming in new locals who want to see what we’re about.”
