The Park City Police Department received several wildlife-related reports recently, including a collision between a driver and an animal.
The cases included:
- On Friday, Aug. 14, at 7:14 a.m., moose were reported in the area of Deer Valley Loop Road and Sunnyside Drive, two streets close to Deer Valley Drive. The police were told the animals appeared to cross a road safely.
- On Monday, Aug. 10, at 10:01 p.m., a driver reportedly hit a young deer at S.R. 224 and Payday Drive.
- On Aug. 10 at 9:19 a.m., the police received a report about a driver hitting a duck in the area of Park Avenue and Kearns Boulevard. The bird was described in public police logs as being in the road and “flapping around.” It was described as creating a traffic hazard.
Police reports involving moose and deer are commonplace in Park City, but it is unusual for a duck to be involved in a collision with a driver in the community.
Other incidents reported to the Police Department recently included:
On Sunday, Aug. 16, at 9:17 a.m., the Police Department received information about a vehicle that was reported to have been left “in the wrong direction” on Aerie Drive and was in the “middle of the lane.” The police were told the SUV was partially blocking the road. The police indicated the vehicle created a traffic hazard.
Someone on Park Avenue contacted the police at 1:33 a.m., indicating a vehicle had been left in someone’s parking spot for longer than two hours.
On Saturday, Aug. 15, at 9:52 p.m., a campfire was reported in a Monarch Drive backyard. The police logged the case as suspected illegal burning.
Water was reported to be “gushing out of the sidewalk” on Park Avenue. The police said the water was because of a utility issue.
The Police Department at 4:44 p.m. received a report in Park City of someone selling magazines, which the person who contacted the agency described as a possible scam, according to public police logs. The police described the circumstances as suspicious.
On Friday, Aug. 14, at 1:09 p.m., the police were told a dump truck did not stop at a brake-check area on S.R. 224 south of Old Town.
A basement on Rossie Hill Drive was reported to be flooded at 11:46 a.m. The water was up to three feet deep, the police were told.
On Thursday, Aug. 13, at 9:55 p.m., someone reported observing a business sign, made of wood, on Main Street that was “hanging by one side.” The person who contacted the police was apparently worried about a safety issue. The police logged the case as a citizen assist rather than a suspected criminal matter.
The Police Department at 8:18 p.m. received information about a no-parking sign that was posted in the area of Park Avenue and 7th Street. The sign did “not belong there,” the police were told. The agency described the sign as creating a traffic hazard.
On Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 11:11 a.m., a vehicle was reported to have been left in a location where it blocked another vehicle at a trailhead in Empire Pass.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m., two vehicles were reported to have been left in a location where they blocked traffic, apparently at a Park Avenue business. The police classified the case as a business assist rather than a suspected criminal matter.
