The Park City Women’s 9-Hole Golf League will once again tee up for a great cause as its cancer fundraiser, Rally for a Cure, will return for the 30th time July 28.
Money raised through sponsorships and an opportunity drawing will go to local women’s health and breast cancer organizations like the People’s Health Clinic, Image Reborn and the Huntsman Cancer Institute. The league raised over $22,000 at last year’s fundraiser, up from $19,000 in 2024.
The league’s co-chair, Kathy Roll, believes the fundraiser began because so many women involved had unfortunately experiences with breast cancer. The league welcomes non-members to come out on July 28 and learn more about the league, its membership and to partake in events like an opportunity drawing, which costs a minimum of $5 to enter.
“We are super excited to celebrate 30 years of raising money for cancer research and helping the people in our community deal with cancer by helping them screen for cancer,” Roll said. “It’s very important to our league. We have over 375 members in our league this year, and everyone is getting excited to either help out or play in our rally day event.”
The league is pleased by the year-to-year funding increases because it benefits those who’ve experienced cancer and strengthens the league’s visibility and bond between members.
A closest-to-the-line driving competition will be introduced this year, with entrants trying to land their tee shots closest to a rope along a fairway. That will cost $10 a person, with the winner taking half of the profits and the other half going to charity.
“The closest to the pin (competition) has always been very popular,” Roll said.
League board member Callaway Zuccarello added, “We have the opportunity baskets for rounds of golf that are donated by golf courses, and we’ve got a couple new ones this year, including ParOne at SkyRidge, which is a new course by the Jordanelle. We’re pretty excited that people can buy tickets to possibly get a round of golf for four there.”
Zuccarello believes the league’s inclusive nature helps make the fundraiser and every day so special. They charge $50 a season to play and only turn non-returning members and non-84060 residents away once they’ve hit 350 members, their maximum capacity.
“It’s such a great group of women who care for each other and the community and enjoy being part of Park City’s golf environment,” Zuccarello said. “It’s a really special place for all of these women, and they build strong friendships that last.”
