Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an individual suspected in a hit-and-run incident after they discovered marijuana and cocaine inside the car during a traffic stop.
Deputies on Friday stopped a driver on Interstate 80 because of the individual’s suspected involvement in a hit and run, according to a departmental shift report. The smell of marijuana reportedly emanated from the vehicle, and deputies found marijuana and cocaine inside the car, as well as a firearm.
The driver and passenger were arrested for drug and weapons offenses and booked into the Summit County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple incidents between Monday, June 22, and Sunday, June 28, including equipment violations and suspected DUIs.
Saturday, June 27
Deputies stopped a vehicle on S.R. 224 after they observed an equipment violation. The driver showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies arrested the driver and transported him to the Summit County Jail. The car was impounded.
Monday, June 22
Deputies noticed a speeding car traveling eastbound on I-80 and initiated a traffic stop. The driver showed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies also found drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. They arrested the driver and transported them to the Summit County Jail.
