Park City freeskier Alex Hall is coming off a 2025-26 season where he won the Milano Cortina Olympics slopestyle silver medal and two Aspen X Games medals, which put him in a tie with Sweden’s Henrik Harlaut for the most X Games medals of any skier.
Hall skied until mid-May following the Olympics, competing in a World Cup in Silvaplana, Switzerland, in late March and filming backcountry and street skiing on the East Coast, and in Canada and Europe.
Hall is planning on continuing to ski in August in either New Zealand or South America, depending on where the better snow is. The first big air World Cup of the 2026-27 season is on Nov. 26-27 in Innsbruck, Austria.
But right now, he’s surfing in Nicaragua.
“It’s the year after the Olympics, so I’m just kind of taking it in stride,” Hall said. “Kind of seeing where the season takes me. … Dedicating a little more time to filming and still doing a bunch of events would be super awesome.”
The backcountry and street skiing helps Hall keep his interest levels high in the sport. He said he wasn’t burned out after the busy competitive season, but is actually the most excited he’s ever been to go ski some more. Hall also said that type of skiing is where he thinks he grows the most, learning tricks he can apply to his competitions.
“(Backcountry and street skiing) almost feels like a whole different sport,” Hall said. “So it doesn’t feel repetitive at all. … I think it’s those sort of laid-back environments where you’re with your friends doing something that’s so different than the competition and you’re not necessarily trying to train you, just trying to improve your craft in any sort of way, are times where I have the most fun, but also where I improve my craft the most.”
Hall will have to balance World Cups with not only one but likely multiple X Games events, as the X Games is creating an inaugural league and winter season this year. One of the four winter X Games League teams will be based in Park City.
“I think I would likely prioritize those (X Games League events),” Hall said. “Hopefully there’s no conflict in scheduling with the World Cups. … Being part of the Park City team would be ideal.”
Hall isn’t big on laying out results-oriented goals for his seasons, but did say it would be nice to break the X Games medals tie with Harlaut.
While catching some waves, Hall is also finishing his bachelor’s degree online.
A lot of the freeski team, like Milano Cortina big air silver medalist Mac Forehand, surf. Hall sees it as a great way to relax, get some exercise and work on his balance.
“(Forehand and others on the team) have gotten good so quickly,” Hall said. “Colby (Stevenson) and I have been surfing for a little longer. But we’re all on a similar level, where we’re surfing the same waves and going on the same trips, which is really, really fun.”
