Park City will celebrate Pride Month with banners on Main Street light poles and Ride with Pride transit decals to demonstrate its commitment to inclusion of LGBTQ+ residents.
The Park City Council unanimously adopted a resolution on Thursday proclaiming June as Pride Month and authorized the banners and decals. The Ride with Pride decal design will be consistent with last year’s theme.
In addition, the council stressed its commitment to creating and supporting policies and programs that stand against discrimination and promote equality and opportunity for all community members.
Utah Pride began in 1974 with a small, informal gathering of Salt Lake City’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community. Pride Month serves as a platform for education, awareness and advocacy and promotes acceptance of the diverse LGBTQ+ community, according to the resolution.
“Park City welcomes residents and visitors from the LGBTQ+ community, their friends and family members, and straight allies who show their support,” the resolution says. “Pride Month is a reminder that we should never let up in our efforts to ensure full equality, inclusion, and empowerment for our LGBTQ+ community.”
