A driver allegedly ran a red light and hit a High Valley Transit bus on Saturday, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple witnesses called to report a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of S.R. 224 and Interstate 80. They told deputies a white Volkswagen had run the red light and struck a High Valley Transit bus.
One witness found the white Volkswagen “a short distance away,” but the driver had fled on foot and abandoned the car. The same witness then located and identified the driver, who was arrested for a hit and run, suspected DUI and other traffic offenses.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, April 6, and Sunday, April 12, including a speeding vehicle in a construction zone and two juveniles on unregistered e-motorcycles.
Friday, April 10
A stationary radar observed a car traveling 78 mph through the construction zone on S.R. 224. Deputies stopped the car near the eastbound on-ramp to I-80. The driver was arrested for a suspected DUI after an investigation. However, deputies had to obtain a search warrant due to the driver’s “continued uncooperative nature.” The driver was also arrested for refusing a chemical test, driving on a suspended license, speeding and operating a vehicle without insurance.
Monday, April 7
Two juveniles on e-motorcycles attempted to evade deputies near a park in the Pinebrook area, but they were later located. The e-motorcycles were impounded because they were not registered, and the juveniles did not have insurance or a valid license. The juveniles were released to their parents.
