Safonova, a Park City boutique known for its unique mix of style and personal service, marked its 15th anniversary in November. Established in 2010 by Laura Coleman, the shop reflects her Ukrainian roots — Safonvoa is her father’s namesake — and her commitment to the local community.
Coleman, who moved to Park City in 1995 after working in the film industry in Odesa, Ukraine, brings a creative sensibility shaped by her seven years in movie production. During her career, Coleman traveled extensively with productions, gaining inspiration from diverse cultures and styles worldwide. Eventually, she followed her best friend to Park City, where she fell in love with the town’s charm and decided to make it her home.
“I always loved to travel, so when my friend invited me, I came here on a work visa, and that’s how it all started,” Coleman shared.
The boutique distinguishes itself through its personalized attention. Coleman is known for treating customers like friends, taking the time to understand their preferences, and offering personalized touches, such as special orders and custom tailoring. This focus on individualized service has helped Safonova build a loyal clientele, many of whom have become repeat visitors over the years. Her collections balance trends with comfort and individuality.
“My passion for the business has not changed since day one,” Coleman explained. “I first started in the business by working for the previous owner in 2004. I then moved into the space in 2010 with my business. I love it.”
Inside the shop, customers find an inviting atmosphere that reflects Coleman’s welcoming ethos. Safonova carries a curated range of contemporary brands and accessories, including Rails, Spanx and Baci, appealing to those seeking both on-trend and comfortable clothing. As Safonova celebrates its 15th anniversary, Coleman attributes its success to the community and the lasting relationships forged with its patrons.
“I keep things local, over the years I have seen changes in these people’s lives,” Coleman added. “They have gotten married, changed diapers in my store, gone to high school and college. It has brought so much joy to see all of us grow up together.”
Coleman loves being a resident of Park City, where she lives with her husband, Jon, and raised their son, Nick. Her deep connection to the community has significantly shaped both her personal and professional life.
“This community has built a strength in me; it proved to me that I can do this,” Coleman said. “I want to continue to do what I do best and what I love.”
