Park City speed skiing legend Lindsey Vonn said that she will try to race in the Milan Olympics with a torn left ACL and additional left knee damage, which she suffered in a Friday crash at the Crans Montana, Switzerland, World Cup, at a Tuesday press conference from Cortina, the site of the women’s alpine Games races.
Vonn, 41 years old, also suffered meniscus damage and bone bruising from the downhill race crash.
A speed skier, Vonn’s first Olympics race looks to be Sunday’s women’s downhill competition. She is also hoping to race next Tuesday’s women’s team combined event and next Thursday’s super-G.
Vonn went skiing in Cortina on Tuesday, testing out her knee, which she said isn’t in pain, with a brace on. She said that she will get more helpful insights into her ability to race on Thursday, the first day of downhill training.
“It feels stable, I feel strong,” Vonn said about her injured knee. “With the help of a knee brace, I am confident that I can compete on Sunday. … I know what my chances were before the crash and that my chances aren’t the same as it stands today, but I know that there’s still a chance.”
