Park City-based Chesley Electric’s current flows in two directions: first toward cutting-edge lighting control systems, then directly back to the community it serves.
Founded in 1994 with a focus on high-end residential projects, Tim Chesley has built a reputation for handling complex electrical infrastructure. Yet, locals are just as likely to recognize the company name from the sidelines of the Running With Ed charity race as they are from a construction site.
“We pride ourselves on our service department, our ability to help people out in an emergency within minutes, as well as remodels and small installs, all the way up to giant homes and hotels,” Tim said.
While their community roots are deep, their professional accolades have garnered national attention. The company recently secured another Lutron award, adding to a growing collection of industry and community honors.
Lutron Electronics, a global leader in lighting control and automated shading solutions, presents these awards to a select group of integrators who demonstrate exceptional technical skill and design aesthetic. In the electrical industry, a Lutron award signals that a contractor doesn’t just install wires; they engineer experiences.
Winning a “Lutron Excellence Award” places Chesley Electric in an elite tier of contractors capable of executing the most sophisticated smart home systems on the market. The awards typically evaluate project complexity, integration with other home systems and the overall “wow factor” of the lighting design.
“We have won nine other awards with Lutron; no other electrical contractor has done that,” Tim said. “We are very proud of it.”

The significance of these awards extends beyond the trophy shelf. They validate the company’s ability to handle the evolving demands of modern luxury homes, where homeowners expect seamless automation of lights, shades and temperature. By consistently winning these honors, the company has demonstrated staying power in a rapidly evolving technology field.
“This latest award (from Lutron) is especially great because the company has gotten so huge since 2010 and is worldwide,” Tim said. “We are submitting against companies like the Bronx Zoo. There are thousands of people competing for this award. We won for the way we integrated lighting controls with an energy-saving component to track the sun and the snow melt on the roof to turn it on and off. They could also pick from 16 million different color temperatures.”
Chesley Electric is owned and operated by Tim Chesley, Jason Miller, Mark McGuinness and Kari Townsand. With a staff of 40, all are dedicated to delivering the best in electrical repair, home automation and lighting design.
“It is an exciting time in this industry,” Tim added. “We are now on the cutting edge of intelligent lighting where the lighting in your house has a processor in each light bulb that is programmable.”
