Canyons Village diners evacuated a restaurant on Thursday after the Summit County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a bomb threat.
A restaurant employee called the Sheriff’s Office because someone called to make a reservation and then threatened the staff, according to a shift report. Deputies evacuated the restaurant and other businesses sheltered in place, too.
The Park City Fire District responded to the restaurant and helped deputies search the building for suspicious objects. The Sheriff’s Office additionally used a K-9 to search the surrounding area.
The shelter-in-place order was in effect for approximately an hour and a half. Deputies did not find an explosive device in the restaurant, and no arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.
The case is still under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, Jan. 5, and Sunday, Jan. 11, most of which were related to suspected driving under the influence.
Saturday, Jan. 10
Deputies stopped a car on S.R. 224 after they observed a traffic violation. They smelled alcohol emitting from the passenger side compartment of the vehicle. The driver reportedly admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies placed the driver under arrest and transported the individual to the Summit County Jail. The vehicle was impounded.
Deputies stopped a vehicle for multiple traffic violations near U.S. 40. They approached the driver, but smelled alcohol coming from the car’s passenger compartment. The driver also appeared intoxicated and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. The driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail, and the car was impounded.
Deputies stopped a car for committing a traffic violation while traveling westbound on Interstate 80. They discovered the driver possessed an illegal substance, which later tested positive for amphetamines. The driver was transported to the Summit County Jail, and the vehicle was impounded.
Monday, Jan. 5
Deputies stopped to help a driver on Old Highway 40 whose car had slid off the road. While speaking with the driver, they saw an open alcoholic beverage in the car. The driver did not show signs of impairment, but deputies issued a citation for the open container.
