A juvenile driver spurred a pursuit on Saturday after fleeing from a traffic stop, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies reportedly tried to stop the vehicle after observing a traffic violation, but the driver fled the area. The Sheriff’s Office initiated a pursuit, but deputies later terminated the chase after they lost sight of the car.
The Sheriff’s Office then conducted an aerial search, but was still unable to locate the vehicle.
However, deputies later identified the car through a license plate reader. They contacted the registered owner and discovered the driver had been a juvenile. The juvenile was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Youth Detention Center.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, Dec. 8, and Sunday, Dec. 14, including vehicle burglaries, driving under the influence and active arrest warrants.
Sunday, Dec. 14
Deputies stopped a car on S.R. 224 because the owner had active arrest warrants. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Friday, Dec. 12
A deputy was dispatched to a car burglary in the Snyderville Basin. The vehicle’s owner said an unknown person stole toolboxes and power tools from the back of his truck overnight. The Sheriff’s Office has not identified any potential suspects at this time.
Deputies responded to Bitner Road after Summit County Dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle accident. Deputies contacted the driver and allegedly observed multiple signs of impairment. The driver performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody for a suspected DUI. The car was impounded.
Monday, Dec. 8
A woman who went hiking at Run-A-Muk called the Sheriff’s Office and said she noticed her purse was missing from her vehicle when she returned. She said the car was not damaged, and she did not know who had taken her purse. The Sheriff’s Office has not identified any potential suspects.
Deputies tried to stop a car on S.R. 224 after observing a traffic violation. The car pulled to the side of the road before suddenly making a U-turn and fleeing. Deputies pursued the car onto Rasmussen Road and stopped it with a PIT maneuver before the driver could turn onto Interstate 80. Two occupants inside the vehicle were taken into custody and booked into the Summit County Jail.
