A GMC truck was stolen from Mountainland Auto Sales on Nov. 28 by a Heber City teen, according to the Heber City Police Department.
Police officers used security footage to verify the theft on Dec. 2. Then, officers contacted General Motors’ OnStar anti-theft team. OnStar is General Motors’ subscription-based platform that provides various services, including navigation, Wi-Fi and safety and security features.
OnStar’s anti-theft team placed an ignition block on the truck and, using GPS information. The vehicle was pinpointed in a nearby neighborhood where “additional suspicious activity involving the unloading of tools” had been previously reported by a resident.
Officers later identified and located the juvenile suspect at a Heber City residence, where the teen was taken into custody without incident. After obtaining a search warrant, police found “a significant amount of suspected stolen property connected to multiple cases across the state,” including tools, vehicle parts and a stolen trailer.
The juvenile suspect was transported to Slate Canyon Youth Center and booked on multiple theft charges.
The GMC truck and additional stolen property are in the process of being returned to their rightful owners.
