The upcoming election for mayor of Park City will be pivotal for our community. It needs to be far more than a popularity contest and much more of a substance and qualification contest. As we all know, Park City is not the sleepy town that we all fell in love with years ago. (I have called Park City home since 2008 and have been coming here since 1997.)
As residents we should be looking at the next mayor of Park City as if we were hiring a CEO of our “company.” The individual needs to be able to comprehend complex issues and work with all aspects of the business of running our town/company with no bias or agenda.
Looking at both candidates I’m surprised that there is any question at all who should be our next mayor. One candidate, Ryan Dickey, is currently on the City Council and part of the old establishment. He has garnered the support and endorsement from the past mayors, who obviously want things to remain the same. Dickey also is a real estate associate agent and a property management business owner. Right away I see a conflict of interest and inherent bias.
The other candidate, Jack Rubin, is motivated by a desire to represent all the residents of Park City and raise their voice within City Hall. From what I can see, he feels an obligation to try to make our town/company better by making sure that the town/company is run properly. He wants to make certain that decisions made in City Hall are done so in the best interests of our community as a whole. He wants City Hall to make well-informed decisions that are based on common sense and common values.
Jack Rubin has one agenda and that is to help make Park City an even better place to live. Jack is retired and has no interest in anything other than serving the people of Park City.
Jack Rubin will breathe much needed new energy, enthusiasm and ideas, which are lacking currently, for our town/company at this critical time. His qualifications, incredible experience and energy are exactly what Park City needs at this moment.
For me, and hopefully for everyone in Park City, the best candidate in the mayoral race is very simple, it’s Jack Rubin.
It boils down to pure basics for me, we have two candidates — one that wants to be our mayor, and one who should and hopefully be our mayor, Jack Rubin.
