I first met Diego Zegarra in the halls of McPolin Elementary School. At the time, I was working with the Park City Education Foundation and he was a recent University of Utah graduate serving with Holy Cross Ministries. Together, we worked to create a high-quality after-school program for students and their families. Diego didn’t have a proverbial dog in the fight, but he chose that work because he wanted Park City to be a place where every child and family could thrive.
Later, when Diego transitioned to the Park City Community Foundation, I had the chance to collaborate with him again. I watched him bring together nonprofit leaders, city officials, donors, and community members — new and longtime residents alike — to tackle local challenges such as child care, food waste and the impact of shorter winters.
Diego has demonstrated his ability to represent both our most vocal constituents and those not typically at the table.
Diego shows up for Park City, time and again. He leads with kindness, curiosity and humility. That’s why I will proudly cast my vote for him in this year’s election.
