As Park City High School clubs begin to get going, The Park Record is happy to announce that they will be continuing to maintain their partnership with PCHS Writes.
PC Writes is a club that encourages students to pursue writing outside of academics through a monthly short story contest. The winning story will be published in the Scene section of the paper at the beginning of the next month.
The competitions will each have a theme.
In the past, Park City High School has offered many creative English courses, such as dystopian novels, short fiction, literature of sports and society and literature for business and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Unfortunately, these classes were discontinued. This happened for a few reasons, with the main reason being that colleges were struggling to accept these courses as core classes and not electives.
The absence of these classes has led to a decline in creative writing in students, because they view it as something that they have to do for class, rather than a hobby they can enjoy. The PCHS Writes club hopes to change that.
In the club, students can practice their writing skills without the pressure of grades or worrying about a college transcript. Club members will not only have the chance to be published in The Park Record, but will also be able to meet other students who are interested in creative writing, trade ideas, suggestions and more!
The feature in The Park Record will also help members of the Park City community see what our local teenagers are able to accomplish and what ideas they might have.
