I write to congratulate the citizens of Park City on having the opportunity to elect Jack Rubin as your next mayor. I have known Jack for over 30 years, having worked with him in New York on two occasions — first at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, and later at Silvercrest Asset Management.
There’s no better place to get to know the real person than work, since at some level your colleagues are also your competitors. In that respect, you see them at their best … and also at their worst. It was from this vantage that Jack and I developed a healthy appreciation for our collective business efforts, culminating in a friendship that endures to this day.
Let me be clear, being workmates and buddies isn’t always easy. On occasions, Jack and I disagreed strongly on matters big and small. But what mattered most to both of us was that we listened to each other, understood our respective positions, won or lost the battle, and then moved on.
It’s strange that such a straightforward process for accomplishing … well, anything … should be so distant from the often polarized ways of thinking and acting today. The point being that Jack doesn’t care about your politics. He only cares about the mission in front of him, and how best to accomplish its objectives in a fair and economically efficient manner.
In fact, despite knowing each other all this time, I can state unequivocally that we have never had a disagreement over politics or religion … principally because we don’t find the need to discuss either.
Instead, we discuss people, events, and solutions. I promise you that Jack is a man of keen intelligence, unassailable character, and unmatched energy. You are lucky to have Jack as your neighbor, and you now have the chance to have him as your mayor.
I am proud to wear my “I Back Jack for Mayor” pin almost daily out here in western Pennsylvania. You should too!
