Why am I supporting Ryan Dickey for mayor?
1. I admire this guy who has already given years of volunteer effort to making our community a better place to live. He is currently serving on the Park City Council, experiencing the ways Park City works and adding his valuable and positive insights to those efforts. As a city councilman, he has been conciliatory, decision-driven and supportive of consensus efforts, though that has been tough work the past two years. He currently serves on the Water Reclamation Board, purifying our wastewater before it flows downhill. As president of our Park City Rotary Club, he proved his ability to conduct a smooth meeting while riding herd on an energetic bunch of volunteers, raising money and heading up projects that benefit our community and the world of Rotary.
2. It’s a good idea to vote for candidates who have a record of service and for people with whom you have worked. For five years Ryan was a member of the Snyderville Basin Planning Commission, recommending valuable planning code applications to the County Commission and County Council, chairing that active group for a year. You can rest assured that Ryan understands the nuances of planning and the decisions that must be made based on code. He is familiar with both Summit County and Park City’s bodies of law.
3. Ryan’s personal attributes are a good fit with the job of mayor. In fact, all five of the living past mayors and all County Council members have heartily endorsed him. He communicates clearly and effectively without being loquacious. He listens carefully and incorporates what he hears into his thoughts as he goes forward. The job of mayor will not be an ego trip for Ryan because he’s a “giver,” not a “taker.”
4. It’s important that our mayor be able to work across various jurisdictions to communicate with our neighbors. Ryan has worked both in Summit County and Park City and has proven his ability to span disparate entities for the benefit of all.
