On July 30 during a community conversation, comments were made to me by John “JK” Kenworthy that were inappropriate and demeaning. Two others who were in attendance have shared similar accounts, and The Park Record’s Aug. 2 letter to the editor by elected and previously elected officials reflect what we witnessed.
After his comments, there were audible gasps from the group. My reaction was one of shock and surprise to what I was hearing, and I immediately called out his behavior to the group for what it was — mansplaining.
Following the incident, a request was made for the official transcript. What was provided was an artificial intelligence-generated “transcript.” The “transcript” on its face acknowledges that it is incomplete, and time stamps in the record appear to show that portions of the comments were not transcribed or have been omitted.
In addition, the group that hosted the event released a summary to their email list on Aug. 2 that acknowledges:
“AI assisted note taker is fallible. Mistakes are his. John Kenworthy is welcome to make corrections/clarifications to these notes. Due to an incomplete LSDM AI summary, the AI summary of another session from Claude has been adapted for LSDM talk by notetaker.”
I appreciate and thank the women who wrote the letter on Aug. 2. Their willingness to speak out when they hear of inappropriate behavior is a testament to their service to the community.
I stand by my account of what was said to me on July 30, and I will continue to speak up when behavior crosses the line.
