I read Mayor Nann Worel and others’ letter titled “Demeaning remarks” on Saturday. I was appalled and outraged at what can only be labeled a character assassination of John “JK” Kenworthy and a failed attempt to paint him as a misogynist. Given that neither Nann nor any of the nine other signatories was present at the meeting, this all appears to be a politically motivated smear campaign. All of them should be ashamed for weaponizing the pages of The Park Record against a stand-up member of the community.
I have both my home and business in Park City. I love this beautiful community and have made many great friends over the years, including JK and his wife, Nancy. The JK I know is warm, funny, loyal and deeply respectful. He loves people and laughs easily.
He is an astute businessman with great insights of Park City. He employs women in positions of leadership in each of his businesses. He employs minorities, invests in mental health services for his staff, goes out of his way to support single mothers who work for him, and serves as a mentor, “big brother,” and friend to men and women alike.
Nann may have forgotten that it was JK who introduced me to her in 2021. He praised her experience and gender as reasons she should be Park City’s first female mayor. He was one of her largest financial contributors and easily her most vocal supporter, and he helped build her support base. JK asked us to support Nann and Tana (who he supported and encouraged to run for council that same year) with a campaign event at our home.
Our daughter, Skyler, a UN Global Youth Humanitarian Award recipient, flew in to speak about women’s rights and equal representation to a crowd of 200. JK brought the community together and rallied us behind two women he believed in.
Which makes this even more shameful. Any one of the women could have picked up the phone to clarify what was said. Instead, they chose public shaming over truth. And promoted a gossip circle to label JK a misogynist. That’s not women in leadership with integrity. They’ve done harm to honest political discourse, their respective offices, and women in Park City. They not only misrepresented a man, but they also betrayed the very values they claim to defend.
The 2021 election theme was “change.” It’s never been clearer that 2025 is about “truth.” Park City should be a place where character matters and truth still counts. Vote for those who aren’t afraid to speak it. Vote for JK for City Council.
