I am a parent, grandparent, great grandparent and a former teacher who is very concerned about the health of children in our country. I still occasionally eat cereal for breakfast, and try to find the ones which have low or no sugar in them. So far I believe that those consist of Cheerios, shredded wheat and oatmeal.

As I walked down the cereal aisle recently, I realized why so many of our children have health and learning problems these days. I looked at the lovely colorful fronts of the boxes of cereal attracting children’s attention and realized that our kids are being enticed to eat food that is very unhealthy for them. The amount of sugar and the attraction of the boxes of course would get the kids to say they want one of these cereals, and I believe that parents let their kids to eat them without realizing the damage which is being done to their children.
