Park City has a great opportunity. Jack Rubin who is running for mayor is a singularly principled, strategic and caring leader whom I got to work with at a nonprofit that expands college access called Let’s Get Ready.
I am the founder and former CEO of the nation’s largest student-to-student mentoring program focused on college access and success. We help 35,000 low-income students per year get into and graduate college.
Jack was an early chairman of our Board of Directors. He oversaw a period of explosive growth in the number of students we serve and depth of which we serve them, even as he navigated the organization through some difficult leadership transitions where he made very hard choices and handled delicate conversations with love and respect. If elected, I can assure you that he will bring strategic excellence and ambition on behalf of Park City and his ability to get along with pretty much everyone.
Jack loves people. He is a consummate connector. He attracted new board members who subsequently spent over a decade in leadership and was always asking questions of our low-income students, of our college student mentors and of staff, board members and donors.
Jack genuinely listened, incorporating feedback into the organization’s strategy, such as its decision to “go deep,” and mentor students all the way through college rather than spread a less intense program thin geographically. As mayor, I know Jack would delve deeply into the details and make tough choices based on feedback and data.
But he will also do so with great kindness and empathy because Jack believes in people. He is passionate about helping people and communities realize their potential and achieve their dreams This is what he did for our organization as the leader who pushed us to apply for bigger and bigger grants, for the thousands of students on whose behalf he spent countless hours working, and for me personally.
He is always encouraging me to dream big and make an impact. I know he is passionate about creating affordable ways to live in Park City and sees the potential of your community to be a great place to live as well as visit.
Let’s Get Ready is not a flashy, big name organization, but it has helped 60,000 low-income students get into and graduate from college where they graduate at two times the rate of their peers. Jack took us on not because we could do anything for him or he would get his name in lights. He assumed leadership of Let’s Get Ready because Jack is a man who believes the world can be better and wants to roll up his sleeves and do the hard, often thankless work to make it so.
Park City would be very wise and fortunate to elect Jack Rubin as mayor.
