Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a 57-year-old man in Coalville who fired gunshots into the air during an argument on the Fourth of July.
Deputies responded to an eastern Summit County RV park after receiving reports of a man displaying two separate firearms in a verbal fight with family members, according to a shift report.
The man allegedly discharged one of the firearms into the air before a family member disarmed him.
No one was struck. The man was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail for suspected reckless endangerment, public intoxication, discharging a firearm, carrying a weapon while under the influence and threatening violence.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, June 30, and Sunday, July 6, including vehicle burglaries and a search for lost hikers.

Summit County Search and Rescue assisted two lost hikers in locating the trailhead near Wall Lake.
Thursday, July 3
Deputies investigated two separate vehicle burglaries that happened within close proximity to each other in the Pinebrook area. One of the victims provided law enforcement with a video of the suspect, who allegedly used an electronic device to unlock the vehicle. The Sheriff’s Office conducted extra patrols in the neighborhood, but a suspect had not been identified as of Monday morning. A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office said a detective would be assigned to the case this week.
