I am incensed that Utah has a constitutional carry/open carry gun Law. The accidental shooting and death of an an innocent bystander on Saturday in downtown Salt Lake City demonstrates what can happen when we see someone walking around with a rifle in a crowd.
How do we know their intent — are they just carrying the rifle, or do they intend a mass shooting? It is tragic that an innocent person has died, and I am grateful the security guards may have prevented a mass shooting.
It would be just as tragic, though, if the gunman were merely exercising their gun right, and were shot due to that. I hope the constitutional carry/open carry gun Law can be reconsidered. Our communities deserve to be safe in every way.
