Local Libraries Inspire Creativity through Summer Activities

From outdoor movie nights to hands-on art workshops, libraries in Summit County are offering a curated schedule of summer events designed to inspire creativity and promote community engagement.

Park City Library

At Park City Library, families can participate in a variety of weekly story time and play-based activities, including Preschool Storytime, Toddler Time, Baby & Me, and bilingual sessions like Cuentos bilingües and Cuentos y cantos. Older kids can also join the Minecraft Club on Thursdays and enjoy outdoor fun at two Summer Slide Parties in July and August.

Teens can gather for gaming-based events like Dungeons & Dragons Night and wellness-focused programs like the Teen Zen Den. The library will also offer free outdoor movie nights throughout the summer, featuring films Paddington in Peru and The Road to El Dorado.

“We take our job as the community’s living room very seriously,” says Katrina Kmak, senior youth services librarian at Park City Library. “We love to serve and inspire our amazing and diverse community, who make our work joyful and meaningful.”

2025 Summer Reading Challenge—Color Your World: Running June 8 to August 9, the nine-week Summer Reading Challenge encourages young readers to read for 20 minutes each day. Participants can log their progress with library staff weekly to enter the drawing for a grand prize.

Spanish Lessons at the Library: New this summer, Park City Library will host weekly Spanish language classes, covering grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and practical dialogues. Held every Wednesday at 3 p.m., these free classes feature songs, short readings, and cultural insights from across the Spanish-speaking countries.

Summit County Library

At Summit County Library’s three branches—Coalville, Kamas, and Kimball Junction—families can find something new to explore each week.

All three library branches will host a rotating schedule of family-friendly programs including Summer Story Times, Play Times, and Rhyme Time sessions. Summit County teens can participate in monthly Paint n’ Sip events, which offer kids ages 12-18 a guided painting workshop paired with a fun selection of mixed sodas and light snacks.

Adults can take advantage of several ongoing monthly programs. At the Kamas branch, the Classic Film Club meets every third Thursday at 6 p.m. to screen and discuss iconic films from Hollywood’s Golden Age. The Kimball Junction Branch hosts a Book to Film Club, where participants read a selected title and gather to watch its film adaptation. The Coalville Book Club meets every month on the third Wednesday at 4 p.m.

For those who prefer to stay in, the Sips n’ Stories Book Club offers a virtual, 21+ gathering where participants mix a themed cocktail and join a book discussion online.

2025 Summer Reading Challenge—Color Our World: Running from June 1 through August 15, the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge invites children up to age 11 to read for 50 days and earn prize tickets along the way. Readers can redeem tickets for colorful prizes at all three branches.

Show Your Colors Weekly Activities: Beginning June 17, the Kimball Junction branch will host Show Your Colors—a free, weekly activity series for elementary-age children. Held every Tuesday at 1 p.m., sessions include painting, drawing, dance parties, and other hands-on projects.
