With Park City Schools Mountain Biking Team’s season set to begin Monday, it was crucial they held another successful bike swap May 10 and 11.
The team has over 200 riders — 20 of whom depend on scholarships in order to ride. The swap helps fund these scholarships, raising tens of thousands for bikes, equipment and more.
At the Utah Film Studios in Quinn’s Junction, the team got busy with selling as much gear as possible. They raised the tens of thousands they were searching for, helping secure seven new bikes for scholarship riders. Head coach Pete Stoughton was thrilled with the effort, noting how the new bikes weren’t just whatever is around but bikes those kids are truly excited to ride.
The team also helped secure gear for Wasatch and Wallace Stegner Academy’s teams.
“We’re really excited that the bike swap was so successful,” Stoughton said.
The team is one of the state’s best, welcoming new riders every year. They won the 2023 state title.
The 2025 season begins Monday with a barbecue and the team’s first practice ride. They ride Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout the summer, competing in the fall.
“It was significant,” added Stoughton on the swap’s impact. “Our scholarship riders are doubling.”
Stoughton estimates around 300 people attended the swap over the two days. They needed an extra studio to meet all the demand. E-bikes and gravel bikes were amongst the most popular items.
The team will look to have fun this summer and fall and compete their hardest for another state title.
“We’re having our kickoff barbecue and ride,” Stoughton said. “Then, our season is off and running.”
