Deer Valley Resort is bringing back its Summer on the Deck series for a second year, offering live music, barbecue and scenic views every Thursday starting June 19 at the Deer Valley Café deck overlooking Pebble Beach. In partnership with Mountain Town Music, the weekly event will also have live entertainment.

“There is no better place to have lunch than the café on that deck in the summer,” said Jacob Musyt, Deer Valley’s vice president of food and beverage.

The lunches are planned from noon to 3 p.m., every Thursday through Aug. 28, and along with good food and live music, there will be paddleboarding on the pond available through Park City Stand Up Paddleboarding.

After trying the events out last year, the barbecue series was started as a way to bring more locals out to the seasonal restaurant space, and this summer’s return will build on its success. According to Musyt, the programming is more intentional this year, with live fire grills adding to a cook-out atmosphere.

In addition to the regular Thursday schedule, Deer Valley will expand the event on key weekends, such as the Fourth of July and Pioneer Day.

“Fourth of July weekend, the 4th through the 7th, we’ll also be doing the barbecue every day with live music,” said Carolyn Allen, the resort’s director of food and beverage.

Musyt added: “We’ll lean into the holidays, when people are not working, or just try to celebrate what’s going on in Park City. … We may increase programming around the Kimball Arts Festival when there’s a lot of people in town.”

With more preplanned programming and their newly expanded beach area, Musyt said the series is aimed at creating a vibrant community hub for both locals and visitors.

“The ethos of the café is community,” Musyt said. “We look at that restaurant as a community staple. Our No. 1 guest is from the community. What do they want? What are they looking for? How do we make them happy? And how do we get them to keep coming back? They’re the ones that keep that business alive.”

That’s why they’ve picked Thursdays for the events, anticipating that more locals will be looking for casual lunch plans mid-week, rather than destination guests visiting for a long weekend.

“We want to be able to do some fun things when we need it and be able to take care of our guests,” Musyt said. “The Thursday is something new and fresh, something our locals can come in and experience.”

The event is designed to be family-friendly, too, and Musyt said they’ve expanded their retail offerings at the cafe to include more kid-focused adventure gear, like binocular packages or insect hunting kits.
