Hey my fellow Republicans: Like me, did you receive Rep. Blake Moore’s May 19 constituent newsletter touting his work on the Ways and Means Committee that approved Trump’s “Big beautiful tax and spending bill”?
Rep. Moore heralded a bunch of provisions he worked on — higher adoption and child tax credits, expanded Health Savings Accounts, investment accounts for young children, increased expense caps for small businesses, and reinstatement of a few specific charitable deductions.
If finally enacted, they seem to be pretty worthy, if relatively minor provisions.
However, in his newsletter bragging about the bill he helped vote out of committee, Rep. Moore failed to mention other provisions that will have far greater impact on Republican and all Summit County voters.
Under consideration now, with Trump’s emphatic endorsement, the budget Rep. Moore so heartily backs would, among other things: Extend the 2017 tax cuts for millionaires and corporations and reduce tax revenues by $7 trillion; slash Medicaid and food assistance programs by about $750 billion; and make it more difficult to enroll in coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
There’s more, and here’s how the Wall Street Journal (5/19/2025) evaluates the bill: “The current proposal would increase projected budget deficits by nearly $3 trillion through 2034, locking in tax cuts and spending increases that outweigh reductions in spending on Medicaid and nutrition assistance. While Republicans, who have vowed to reduce red ink, say higher economic growth will fill the gap, budget analysts across the political spectrum have panned the Republican plan, warning that it worsens the U.S. fiscal picture.”
I ask my fellow Republicans, who is Rep. Moore representing by casting his vote for this bill? You? Certainly not me or his many constituents who understand the bill violates the traditional core Republican values that budgets should be balanced and not increase the national debt.

If that fails, call our senators because the budget proposal may soon be in their court.
