Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies disarmed a man who pulled out a knife after he was questioned regarding his involvement in a vandalism incident.
Deputies initially responded to a Kimball Junction property to investigate reports of a broken glass door, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office. The victim provided a screenshot and video recordings of the possible suspect, who left the scene around 1:42 a.m.
They later spotted a male pedestrian on S.R. 224 who matched the suspect’s description. The man submitted to questioning and admitted his involvement before pulling a knife from his pocket.
Deputies disarmed him before he was able to open the knife. He was then arrested for criminal mischief and interference with a peace officer.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other incidents between Monday, May 12, and Sunday, May 18, including drug possession, assault and a cryptocurrency scam.
Sunday, May 18
Deputies stopped a vehicle on Interstate 80 and found the female driver had a denied driver’s license. They searched the vehicle and discovered the woman possessed a small amount of marijuana. She was cited and released for drug-related charges and for driving on a denied license.
A K9 unit alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics in a vehicle they stopped on I-80. Deputies searched the car and found controlled substances and drug paraphernalia. The two occupants were arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Saturday, May 17
A Summit County resident contacted deputies to report a financial scam involving cryptocurrency. The resident claimed they were defrauded of approximately $15,000 “through a fraudulent investment scheme facilitated via cryptocurrency platforms.” The case is under investigation.
Deputies responded to an assault in a Kimball Junction parking lot. They determined the alleged assault involved domestic violence. The suspected perpetrator of the assault was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.
Deputies initiated a traffic stop in the Snyderville Basin area and smelled a strong alcoholic odor emanating from both the vehicle and the driver. The driver was transported to the jail and then released with a citation for suspected driving under the influence.
Wednesday, May 14
Deputies stopped a vehicle with a broken headlight on S.R. 224. They discovered the driver had a statewide warrant out for their arrest, and deputies took them into custody.
Tuesday, May 13
Deputies stopped an uninsured vehicle traveling near Bitner Road. They discovered the driver had four active, statewide warrants for his arrest and took him into custody. Deputies then searched the vehicle and found marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The vehicle was impounded, and the driver was booked into the Summit County Jail for drug-related charges and his outstanding warrants.
