It would appear nobody can slow down the Miners girls lacrosse squad, or even come close, as the team advanced Saturday to the state semifinals.
Park City took down West Jordan 21-2 in their season finale on Dozier Field. It was their seventh game scoring 20 or more goals in a win.
The Miners began their onslaught early, taking a 9-1 lead into the second quarter. Park City scored five more goals in both the second and third quarters.
Senior Megan Magee dominated for the Miners, with four goals and four assists. Freshman Hadley Mulholland also played great, with two goals and three assists. Including Magee and Mulholland, 12 Park City players notched goals or assists.
“Great team win,” said Miners head coach Mikki Clayton. “We had a lot of girls contribute.”
Park City has been a balanced team all season, with nine players reaching double digit points. This type of attack will need to remain heading into the semifinals and potentially title game. The Miners could face archrival Olympus yet again in the title game, who they’ve faced in each of the last three, winning in 2023.
“We do a lot of really good foundational work off-field,” added assistant coach Daria Lucchesi. “That’s complimentary of how we play on the field.”
The Miners were hard at practice leading into Tuesday’s semifinal at Westminster University at 10 a.m. against Cedar Valley. Clayton wants everyone to be sharp as can be, a reason why she got much of her team minutes late against West Jordan.
“All of our girls can contribute,” said Clayton. “The score showed that.”
To keep up with the remainder of the 5A tournament, see MaxPreps’ website. The drive from Park City to Westminster’s Dumke Field is a little over 30 minutes. Should the Miners advance to the title game, it will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman.
