Tory Welch’s letter “What is a Patriot” raised very important, well-placed concerns. We should all be concerned about the narrow-minded hate from people like the fraudulently named Patriot Front.
Patriotism isn’t a red-white issue. It’s not a left-right issue. It’s not a male-female issue. It’s not a straight-gay issue. It’s a human being issue.
I would like to ask, though, if Tory’s concern extends to the glaringly obvious white nationalist practices and beliefs of the people in high office in the current administration in D.C. who are brazenly eviscerating the contributions and history of blacks, women and other minorities from the military and Department of Defense, the Smithsonian, Arlington National Cemetery, the Library of Congress, etc — folks specifically like Pete Hegseth and Stephen Miller, among others.
One cannot pick and choose which racists one opposes. Either one is principled, or one is not.
