Our national politics are fraught with negativity and personal attacks that do little to serve our country. Park City, a small local community has for the most part avoided sinking to the level of many of our national politicians.
Unfortunately, Mr. Doilney’s personal attack, in his letter to the editor of May 3, targeting some of our Park City council members has brought a level of personal attack and negativity not very familiar in our community.
The approach used in the letter represents the lowest form of discourse, serving only to poison productive dialogue and create lasting division within our community. When an individual resorts to character assassination and meanspirited criticism, they derail meaningful discussion of Park City’s important issues.
Instead of engaging in personal attacks, we should focus on addressing specific issues, and present factual evidence. This approach not only maintains dignity and professionalism but also creates an environment where different perspectives can be shared respectfully, leading to more effective problem-solving and stronger community relationships.
Remember, attacking ideas is fair game; attacking people is not.
Our city council members all attempt to do what they believe is the right course of action. For that they deserve our respect for their time and energy dedicated to our fair city.
