A hit-and-run accident in a Kimball Junction parking lot led to a foot pursuit on Sunday.
The driver of a Toyota Prius allegedly backed into another vehicle in a Kimball Junction parking lot and fled on foot after the crash, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies located the driver at a nearby hotel and attempted to confront him, but he fled on foot again. Deputies then found him a second time and successfully took him into custody.
The driver had no license, insurance or registration, and deputies impounded his vehicle. They arrested the driver for failure to comply with law enforcement, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and various traffic offenses.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, April 28, and Sunday, May 4, including retail theft, intoxication and drug possession.
Sunday, May 4
Deputies responded to the Pinebrook area after a reported accident between a pedestrian and a vehicle. During the investigation, deputies determined a juvenile had been riding an electric bicycle and that the rear of the bicycle collided with a vehicle attempting to complete a turn. The juvenile had a minor scratch to his hand and minor damage to his bicycle. The juvenile was reunited with his parents, and he did not require on-scene medical treatment.
Deputies were dispatched to investigate “suspicious” activity near the Silver Summit area. The reporting party told deputies a man was rummaging through nearby dumpsters and then got into a Volkswagen bug. Deputies arrived and saw two individuals in the car, which was parked by the dumpsters. They conducted a records check and found the man had an active warrant for his arrest. He was taken into custody and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Deputies responded to a domestic violence call and interviewed the two parties. After the investigation, they arrested one person for assault.
Saturday, May 3
Deputies stopped a vehicle in the Snyderville Basin area because it had a revoked registration. The driver also did not have insurance. The vehicle was towed, and deputies issued the driver a citation.
Deputies received a call regarding multiple alarms going off at a retail store in the Jeremy Ranch area. Someone had shattered the front door, entered and burglarized the store. The person met the same description as a suspect in a previous burglary case at the same store in February. Deputies have not yet located the alleged suspect.
Deputies stopped a car on S.R. 224 for a registration violation. They also searched the car and found multiple controlled substances. The driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.
Friday, May 2
Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident at Promontory Gate House. They discovered the vehicle was not registered, and the driver did not have insurance. The vehicle was impounded, and deputies issued a citation to the driver for “several traffic-related offenses.”
A Snyderville Basin resident reported he had multiple packages stolen from his porch. There are currently no suspect details or video surveillance of the alleged theft. Deputies closed the case because of the lack of information.
Thursday, May 1
Deputies initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 80 because of an equipment violation. During the stop, they noticed an open container in the car. They searched the vehicle and also found drug paraphernalia. Both occupants were cited and released.
Wednesday, April 30
Deputies stopped a vehicle with a revoked registration on S.R. 224. The car was last insured in 2023, and the registration was expired and revoked. The car was towed, and the driver was cited and released.
A concerned resident called law enforcement to report a woman sitting in her car near a set of gas pumps in Kimball Junction because “something was wrong with her.” Deputies responded and observed signs of intoxication. They also discovered the woman had an active warrant and was on probation. She was taken into custody.
Deputies stopped a vehicle near Coalville after observing several lane travel violations. The driver displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. Deputies determined it was unsafe for the driver to operate a vehicle. They placed the driver under arrest for suspected driving under the influence and transported them to the Summit County Jail.
Tuesday, April 29
Deputies initiated a traffic stop on a speeding vehicle driving on S.R. 224. They smelled alcohol emanating from the car and observed signs of impairment in the driver. The driver performed poorly on both field sobriety tests and preliminary breath tests. Deputies arrested the driver and transported the individual to jail for driving under the influence and speeding.
Monday, April 28
Employees at a Kimball Junction retail store stopped a man who left the store without paying for his merchandise. Deputies responded, identified the man and issued a citation. He was not detained.
