Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies were flagged down on April 21 by concerned citizens who reported an intoxicated man had walked past them and entered a vehicle near the Lowell Avenue area.
Deputies found the man sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle in a nearby parking lot, according to a report from the Sheriff’s Office. They approached him and allegedly observed multiple signs of impairment. Deputies also smelled alcohol in the vehicle, law enforcement said.
The man was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.
The Summit County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, April 21, and Sunday, April 27, including driving under the influence and a search for a missing juvenile.
Thursday, April 24
Summit County Dispatch aired an alert notifying law enforcement about a hit-and-run near mile marker 150 in westbound Interstate 80. The vehicle was described as a truck pulling a trailer, and it reportedly side swiped a semi truck. A Summit County deputy located both vehicles and moved them to a brake check area. A Utah Highway Patrol trooper interviewed the truck driver, who was from Tennessee, and noticed the strong smell of alcohol coming from the man. He said he was not aware he had hit the semi truck. A portable breath test came back positive. The man was arrested for suspected DUI.
Monday, April 21
Law enforcement in Uinta County, Wyoming, requested Summit County Search and Rescue’s help with locating a missing juvenile. The Search and Rescue team and deputies with K9s responded. However, the juvenile was found before Summit County crews arrived on scene.
Deputies responded to a single-vehicle accident near Highland Estates. The car had extensive body damage and the 22-year-old driver showed signs of impairment, so deputies initiated an investigation. Deputies also observed several unopened cans of alcohol in the backseat. The driver performed poorly on a standard field sobriety test and was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and driving without a valid license.
