John Tingey, 55, visiting from Honolulu, died at Park City Mountain on Wednesday morning while snowboarding in the Canyons Village area.

The Summit County Sheriff’s Office said deputies and ski patrollers responded to a report of an injured snowboarder around 11 a.m. He was found buried in snow near the Alley run, part of an intermediate trail off the Super Condor Express lift.

“While the exact circumstances surrounding how the individual became buried remain unclear, there are no indications that the incident was avalanche related,” the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release.

A family member assisted ski patrollers in finding and digging out Tingey before he was transported to an on-site medical facility, where paramedics pronounced him deceased.

“On behalf of our entire Park City Mountain team, we extend our sincerest sympathies to the family and friends of our guest,” said Deirdra Walsh, vice president and COO of Park City Mountain.
