The father of a 15-year-old girl was arrested on Saturday for allowing his daughter and her friends to drink alcohol at a house party, according to a shift report from the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to an address in the Silver Summit area around 10 p.m. and observed approximately 50 cars parked on the road. “Many juveniles” ran from the residence as deputies approached, but one person stopped and confirmed there was a party involving underage drinking.
An adult man answered the door when deputies knocked and identified himself as the property owner. Deputies suspected he had been drinking, and the man said his 15-year-old daughter had asked if she could have friends over at the house.
The man claimed he didn’t know “what was going on inside his residence, which didn’t appear to be feasible due to the sheer number of juveniles and how loud the inside of his residence was,” according to the shift report.
Deputies consulted with the Summit County Attorney’s Office for advice and then arrested the man for contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He was transported to the Summit County Jail.
The Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple other calls between Monday, March 10, and Sunday, March 16, including assault, wrong-way driving and an injured snowmobile rider.
Sunday, March 16
Search and Rescue assisted with a medical call on East Weber Canyon Road. A snowmobiler reported a possible spinal fracture. Search and Rescue assisted with transporting the snowmobiler to the medical helicopter that landed on scene.
A man wanted to turn himself in to the Sheriff’s Office. He had a warrant out of Summit County regarding three third-degree felonies. Deputies took the man into custody and booked him into the jail.
Saturday, March 15
Deputies responded to an assault-in-progress call in the Snyderville Basin area. The “predominant aggressor” was identified based on video footage and witness statements. The individual was arrested for assault, property damage, threatening others and intoxication.
Thursday, March 13
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a driver’s license violation. A K9 unit alerted deputies to narcotics, and they found drug paraphernalia. They arrested the driver and transported them to jail.
Summit County Dispatch issued a call to locate a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of S.R. 40. Deputies found the vehicle and stopped it near the Interstate 80 junction. The male driver allegedly displayed signs of impairment and performed poorly on field sobriety tests. He was taken into custody, and deputies searched him. They found a “waxy substance that later tested positive for THC.” The driver was transported to the Summit County Jail and booked for driving under the influence and possessing marijuana.
Tuesday, March 11
Search and Rescue responded to the Whitney Lake area after receiving a report of overdue snowmobilers. The snowmobilers had contacted family members to say they were having problems with their sleds. They abandoned the machines and were attempting to hike out of the area. Search and Rescue was able to sled in, locate the party and transport them off the mountain safely.
Monday, March 10
Deputies stopped a vehicle after observing a moving violation. They deployed a K9 unit and searched the vehicle, finding drug paraphernalia and a “user amount” of a controlled substance. The driver was arrested and transported to the Summit County Jail.
A K9 unit alerted deputies to the presence of narcotics during a traffic stop on I-80. Deputies searched the vehicle and found fentanyl and drug paraphernalia. The driver was arrested, but the passenger was released with the vehicle.
