Thanks, again, Clara Hatcher for your reporting on the Patrick Hayes road rage killing. This is such a tragedy resulting from folks disapproving of the way strangers drive their cars.
In this case, Patrick Hayes’ life was lost and Greg DeBoer’s life is destroyed, as he is going to be held accountable one way or another. I attended last week’s court hearing and witnessed this uncalled-for sad story.
Some folks living and working in our greater area do not understand that the sole purpose of driving a car is to reach a destination safely. Not to compete, not to enforce, not to educate, not to punish. This is the job of law enforcement. Drivers make unintentional errors or are not careful enough at worst. No one deserves to die as a result of someone else’s road rage.
Let me share with the public my own driving experience in this area. I do witness occasional road rage.
My takeaway? I let my auto insurance monitor my own driving through an app. My driving is more moderate and careful. I contain my rage at others. I save on insurance costs. I possibly save my life from road-rage-prone drivers. Let there be some positive public takeaway from this tragedy.
